This is the domed chapel that forms part of the former Hôpital de La Grave, and it has become one of Toulouse’s most iconic silhouettes—especially recognizable by its large green dome reflected in the waters of the Garonne River. The original hospital was established in the 12th century to care for the poor, the sick, and orphans. The chapel's dome, which defines the skyline today, began construction in 1758 and was completed in 1845. Rescued and renovated after nearly being destroyed in a huge flood. The acoustics inside are marvelous, and we loved the stained glass windows. Read moreSadly the musuems at La Grave were closed due to COVID on my visit but the site is beautiful from the outside and there were some detailed info panels about the fascinating history of the hospital here (from the plague to poorhouse to modern day). It is interesting how late it was being run by the church! Worth visiting and taking the time to read. I hope to return one day and visit the museums and the new park that is under construction...
