Château de Versailles Spectacles — Attraction in Versailles

My partner and I attended the Ball of the Century event on December 9th. The palace was incredible, but there were quite a few caveats/misinformations within the event. We bought the 200 euro Sapphire tickets. We entered the event through the main gates and were directed towards the right side door of versailles where we went through a security check. Following the security check was a booth for ruby/diamonds to get their bracelets, the sapphire coat check, and then the ruby/diamond coat check. The congestion caused by having the ruby/diamond bracelet broth prior to the sapphire coat check was a nuisance, and the space/crowd should've been better managed. I'd recommend either having the coat checks grouped together or the ruby/diamond bracelet stand in a different section of the room. After we checked our bags/changed our shoes from outside shoes to dance shoes, we were told we'd have to walk across the palace grounds (after it had just rained) in our dance shoes, which were damaged in the process, and no coats. Note: there was no reason for us to cross the courtyard when some of the areas of the palace we were going to were directly underneath via the stairs on the side. After we crossed the wet courtyard, we walked into the welcoming/receiving room where everyone was given a glass of champagne. There was a harpist, who set the ambiance quite nicely. We were able to take a few pictures here and proceeded into a few of the other rooms within the palace. There were two fortune tellers set up in one room and a live pianist in the Napolean room. Afterwards, we welcomed into the Hall of Mirrors, which was hosting some of the dance performances. Unfortunately, the dance performances were stuffed into one side of the room, and the crowd was so crowded around them that it was impossible to see any of the dancing if you weren't tall or first. We were able to catch a few glimpses of the ballet, which was fantastic, but the latin/smooth dancers were lackluster or of the same quality as the dancing on Dancing with Our Stars. There were a few other activities that happened throughout the night that were more targeted towards people who didn't dance or wanted a break from the dancing, which I can't speak to. For the grand ball/open dancing portion of the event, which should've been the primary focus of the night based on what was advertised, it was about 2 1/2 hours (9-11:30). Every other song was a large group dance led by the Carnet de Bals dancers, which unfortunately took much of the free dance time (roughly 15 minutes every time, at least 6 times in the night). Many people couldn't/didn't participate in these due to language barriers (Carnet de Bals dancer leading the instruction could only speak French) or timidness at something new. No English waltzs, foxtrots, or tangos were ever played, only viennese waltzes, despite the Ball of the Century description including them.

Nonetheless, being at a Ball in the Palace of Versailles was incredible. However, when the palace is open from 7/730-1:30 AM and only 2.5 hours of it is actual dancing (even less if you don't count the group dances), it's quite disappointing to an actual ballroom couple that was hoping to be amongst peers who could dance ballroom. As the event is, I would not go back next year. It's something that I'd recommend someone to do once for the novelty, but not an event that is repeatable due to its shortcomings.

If the organizers of the event would like to improve in the future, I'm happy to share my thoughts to improve the event...

This Sound N Light show, is a fantastic experience. We were drenched in rain while waiting, and water puddles were everywhere during the show. Unfortunately, there were a lot of staff, but the organization and information were not very good for the show, if you are a newcomer. At one point I wanted to ask for the money back and leave. With Prestige tickets, designated parking and a glass of Champagne is included. Only the parking site was well organized. The rest seemed like you are on your own. A few stands were around selling snacks and drinks. On our way out to request money back and go home during the storm, we saw the booth to get the Champagne glass, included in the ticket. At this point the rain subsided making it bearable and the show started. We experience the most astounding array of color, nitrogen floor, music and water fountain movements combinations. You walk around the gardens to watch a different show at every water fountain as well as light show performed on the Castle. Walk around and entire show lasts two hours. The water puddles and no lights on most of the area made walking very difficult. It is not for handicapped individuals or with mobility problems. It is intense. Fee was 54 Euros for Prestige, including parking, champagne glass and show entrance. Summer would be the ideal time for this experience. Nous sommes venu pour voir les grandes eaux nocturnes le 14 septembre. C'est un évènement que nous attendions avec impatience, étant déjà venu profiter des jardins en journée, nous avions hâte de découvrir les lieux de nuit. Malheureusement l'expérience était décevante :

Nous avions prévu de stationner notre voiture aux parking des armes (comme indiqué sur le plan d'accès) mais cela fut impossible. Les alentours étaient bouchés sur plusieurs kilomètres, une fois arrivé au parking, celui ci est fermé "complet". Avec aucune indication en amont et personne pour prévenir les visiteurs et assurer la circulation qui était infernal. 1h coincé dans la circulation pour accéder aux 2 entrées des parkings. Évidemment, aucune communication. Nous avons pu nous garer dans un parking privé, qui était presque complet, puis nous avons marché jusqu'au château. Je pense qu'un grand nombre de visiteurs n'a pas pu avoir le temps de visiter la totalité des jardins accessibles pour l'événement où ont dû le faire au pas de course.

Il est évident qu'il y avait trop de visiteurs pour cet événement. Une fois arrivés aux guichets pour scanner nos tickets (acheté sur le site), nous voilà dans des fils d'attente interminables, les gens étaient les uns sur les autres. Une fois rentrés dans les jardins, c'était une véritable fourmilière. Il était très difficile de se déplacer dans les allées les plus étroites, nous avancions au ralenti dans beaucoup d'endroits. Certains espaces n'étaient pas accessibles tant il y avait de monde. Nous n'avons pas pu voir toutes les fontaines ni nous rendre dans tous les lieux importants des jardins. (Une partie des jardins était bien sûr inaccessible au public durant cet événement). Impossible également de se rendre aux toilettes, les fils d'attente étaient immenses et nous ne pouvions pas nous permettre de patienter au minimum 30 minutes alors que nous avions déjà perdu 1h pour entrer au château. La sortie, une fois le spectacle terminé à 23h fût également laborieuse, nous avons passé un certain temps, tous entassés, pour pouvoir sortir. Tout le monde était dans un entonnoir, les espaces de sortie n'étaient pas du tout adaptés.

Nous avons eu la sensation d'être dans un centre commercial pendant les soldes, ou dans un parc d'attraction bondé. Notre idée d'une balade agréable et romantique dans les jardins du château n'était vraiment pas la bonne. Heureusement les gens étaient respectueux et agréables.

C'est un détail mais les allées étaient, par endroit, recouverte de boue et de grandes flaques d'eaux, de trous. Comme il y avait très peu d'éclairage c'était un peu dangereux (notamment pour des personnes âgées ou à mobilité réduite).

Aucune mesure de sécurité : pas de véritable contrôle à l'entrée. Au vu du nombre de personnes (plusieurs milliers) et des insuffisantes dispositions pour accueillir et faire circuler le public, nous n'étions pas rassurés. Surtout lors de la sortie, c'était une marée humaine entassée.

En dehors de cela le spectacle était magnifique, les fontaines et les jardins sont évidemment entretenus à merveille. C'était vraiment magnifique. Les éclairages étaient incroyables. On redécouvre le château avec sa façade habillée d'une lumière chaude et scintillante. Le feu d'artifice était magique, nous étions enchanté de vivre ce moment.

Le staff était très agréable, mais malheureusement en sous effectif pour gérer autant de visiteurs. Ils étaient très accessibles et nous ont renseigné avec plaisir.

Nous repartons donc avec un goût amer de cette soirée d'exception que nous n'avions pas du tout imaginé ainsi. Nous reviendrons volontiers nous promener dans les jardins et au château pour une journée, comme nous l'avons déjà fait. Mais nous ne reviendrons pas pour les évènements et les spectacles. L'expérience n'était pas celle qui était décrite et l'organisation ainsi que la gestion n'était pas du tout à la hauteur du nombre de personnes venus assister aux grandes eaux nocturnes.
