This is a contemporary sculpture of a half face located on the north side of the river beside Untere Brucke in the Old Town of Bamberg. It is the work of Polish sculptor Igor Mitoraj and was erected in 1987. What you see is a bronze of a much larger than life neck, chin, mouth, nose, partial ears along with one partial and one complete eye socket. The rest is left for the mind to fill in the blanks or to contemplate the meaning of the incomplete face. Worth a brief viewing if taking in the attractions in this area of Bamberg.
