I was able to use my student discount to visit the Stadtschloss Fulda, and to be fair, the ticket prices weren't that high. However, navigating the palace was quite challenging as there was no clear guidance, and we ended up getting lost on the upper floors. When we asked about leaving our coats, we were only directed to lockers that required coins. The map we were given at the entrance was very confusing, and since the reception staff only spoke German, we got lost multiple times and didn't even realize we hadn't seen the main part of the palace! We only stumbled upon the main museum area by chance when we opened a random door. On the positive side, the palace was very quiet and not crowded at all, which allowed us to wander around and spend as much time as we wanted. The Stadtschloss itself is a Baroque palace built in the early 18th century as the residence for the Prince-Abbots and later Prince-Bishops of Fulda. It has a rich history, evolving from an earlier...
Read moreMarvelous baroque palace from the early 18th, known as 'Residence' and that nowdays houses the town hall and a museum.
You can visit at 3,50 (august 2019) some historical rooms distributed among three floors.
They are nicely decorated in a baroque style (porcelain, furniture, etc.) and you visit them by your own, with no time limit. Sadly the most of the information is only in german.
The staff barely speak english, but the ticket seller and one woman in charge of some rooms were very kind and made the effort to explain us all the necessary to enjoy the visit.
Some of the adjoining rooms are used as registry and by civil servant staff and you can see them at work as you stroll around If there's a wedding (mostly weekends) the rooms can't...
Read moreLovely palace. Well-preserved. I'm basing my review not on the beauty of the palace but on the functionality as a museum. Since the building houses city hall and office workers, you have to weave through some office space to see certain sites. There are no descriptions of the rooms or the very few items in the rooms. Not in English. Not in German. None. So I just wander about with a map in my hand to see pretty rooms. Otherwise I really learn nothing. They need to get a real museum curator in there to address the best way to turn a pretty palace into a...
