The St. Sebald Church, or Sebalduskirche, is a cornerstone of Nuremberg's historical and religious tapestry. Founded in the 13th century, this storied edifice has borne witness to the city's highs and lows, its spires serving as a beacon of faith and resilience. Its Gothic and Romanesque elements speak to architectural epochs long past, while its ornate interior offers an evocative window into medieval spirituality. Location-wise, the church enjoys a prime spot in the heart of Nuremberg's Altstadt, a short stroll from the Hauptmarkt. For those relying on public transportation, the church is easily accessible, with various tram and bus lines stopping nearby. On the day of our visit, the hallowed air of Sebalduskirche was infused with a youthful energy. A local youth band was in rehearsal, their spirited melodies echoing through the venerable vaults of the church. It was a striking juxtaposition—these young musicians filling an ancient space with contemporary sounds—and a delightful reminder that St. Sebald Church is as much a living community center as it is a historical monument. Certainly, an added delight to the whole experience at St. Sebald Church is its proximity to culinary satisfaction. Nestled just a stone's throw away is a charming local restaurant that perfectly complements a visit to this historic site. The eatery offers an array of dishes that speak to the region's culinary heritage, making it an excellent spot to savor authentic local flavors after a spiritually and historically enriching tour. Thus, the church not only feeds the soul but also sits adjacent to a place that quite literally nourishes the body.

Sebalduskirche (St. Sebaldus Church) is a medieval church in the St. Sebald District in the Old Town. Dedicated to the Patron Saint of Nuremburg, this is one of the most important churches in the city. Opening hours are 9.30am to 6pm daily. There is a suggested donation of 2 euro per person for those who visit. The church history dates back to at least the early 13th-century when construction began on a Romanesque style building. Gothic additions to the church were made in the 14th and 15th centuries. Unfortunately, St. Sebaldus was heavily damaged during WWII bombing and had to be restored. We enjoyed the front towers of St. Sebaldus as well as the Gothic exterior features on the north side of the church. Within, you find tall and narrow nave with ceiling vaults. The high altar is attractive, as are the artworks, sculptures and stained glass windows which can be viewed within the church interior. A particularly interesting find is the shrine of St. Sebaldus. This is a delicately created monument, the work of Peter Vischer the Elder and his sons (1508-1519). This is worth finding and spending a few minutes to view and enjoy. Overall, St. Sebaldus is a must-see attraction in Nuremburg if you enjoy seeing old churches and are a fan of history and architecture. It also makes a good complement to St. Lorenz south of the Pegnitz River as well, another church that you should make time for to see.

Where can you find the Risen Christ? In a dark corner, lit by candles, to the right of the entrance. The second picture was taken from the same vantage point as the picture of the Risen Christ and gives an impression of the older, late Romanesque part of the church. The third picture is intended to make it clear that the church is a church, even if its furnishings could also be a museum of Nuremberg's city history. Was wohl als nächstes passiert? One of four strange hybrid creatures, called candlestick angels, at the corners of St. Sebaldus' tomb. Each figure is accompanied by a snake, and each behaves differently towards this snake. Here is the nasty surprise: the snake has approached unnoticed and appears on the shoulder. What will happen next? In any case, the angel remains strangely unmoved. Strange indeed. Theseus, son of King Aegeus of Athens, has killed the Minotaur and attached the head to his shield as a trophy. He has wrapped Ariadne's thread, here more of a belt, around his sword like a souvenir. But when he returns to Athens he forgets to use a white sail, the agreed sign of a happy outcome to the venture, so that his father Aegeus thinks he is dead. He then throws himself to his death from the rock of the Acropolis. The mouse is a symbol of death.

Otaczają go apostołowie, a w dolnej części siedzą bogowie olimpijscy i herosi greccy i "złotowłosy Bóg Apollo" i Herkules i starotestamentowy mocarz Samson i groźny Nimrod, wszyscy pogromcy lwów. To zdecydowanie najpiękniejsza świątynia w Norymberdze.
