Families and teens, friends and schoolmates, college fraternity from as far as Tübingen and corporate groups all congregate of these fairgrounds. The beer halls sponsored by different beer brands were full of people dancing to live bands. The screams of excitement from young partons on the 80 meter drop ride , the several pendulum rides and roller-coasters add to the effervescent vibe around Wasen. The efficiency of the police with its presence at every corner ensuring that families are safe and those who need help are given attention from the German Red Cross ambulances stationed nearby. There were Swabian grill houses, Blackforest specialities and several Langos stalls. The Dutch Poffertjes and the Knobibrot wagon were missing this year . The self made tools especially the ironsmith and the horse shoe maker, jewelry and handbags were a lot lesser than the...
Read moreIf you're spending let's say 150€ for a concert, know you're better off standing on the outskirt to watch the big screens. There's a HUGE delay between the sound and what's shown on the screen, which could be resolved. If you're not in the middle of the crowd, you'll be at least 5 seconds late to what's happening on stage, which doesn't make for the best ambiance.
The crowd is just one massive crowd in one place. You should see how it's done at Rock am Ring : three pits, each of them barricaded so you can have better security access and access to the stands. Again: this was a 150€ event, and that's the minimum fare. Do better.
Also the sound is awful, but that...
Read moreIt's a total blast but unfortunately it's also a full blast of cigarette smoke. Germany has among the highest cigarette smoking rates of the developed world, don't underestimate this! We will be going to Munich next time. Yes, it will be more expensive for lodging and all BUT if you are American, British or from other countries with tobacco prevention programs, you will likely enjoy it more. Unfortunately the entire table that we joined (reservation) was chain smoking. Very strange and sad to see so many young people addicted to this harmful substance. It's a big fun party but your lung will not be happy if you go. I'll be back the year that it's...
