First, I'd give 3.5/5. Second, the place is lovely with great food and great service.
I paid about 30 euros for a salmon tataki starter and asian-style noodles with angus black beef and a house beer.
-Their house beer is great. It's a NEIPA actually brewed in Kavala by Marmite, the local nano brewery, which explains its 6.5eur price tag. Great beer served I'm a beautiful, and intricate, glass.
-Their tataki is where the most points were lost. Let me start by saying it was delicious and was a very large portion. However, it wasn't a tataki. The tuna was heavily seared all around and was served in thick chunks a bit like you serve a pork tenderloin. Sauce was great, meat was tasty. Just don't call it a tataki if it's not raw and thin or hacked. This felt like a tuna steak served like a log. I'd order it again, but it's not a tataki, which is what I expected. It is probably served like this as it's an expensive starter, and they probably dont sell that much, hence the tune being frozen. The restaurant is right next to the sea, lower the portion size, and serve something unfrozen, raw, and fresh. That would be nicer.
-The noodles; super tasty dish, but at an extr 6 euros for the angus black, it was a bit annoying to have so little. Furthermore, asking for how the meat should be done makes no sense if the wish is not respected. I asked for red/bloody, and it was served medium. It was average quality meat, so calling it angus aaa black is misleading. Just label it as the beef option.
Aside from all of this. Lovely service, pleasant atmosphere etc. It's just a bit annoying when things are upsold to you and it's not really what you ordered, even if, in the end, it...
Read moreTsalapetinos is a beautifully designed all-day spot in Kavala, offering food and drinks in a cozy atmosphere. We visited for breakfast and had mixed impressions.
The avocado and poached egg was good, but I would have preferred fresh avocado rather than a pre-made cream. The Eggs Benedict were disappointing—by the time they arrived, they lacked the quality expected.
Service was just okay. While the staff was polite, they weren’t attentive. Even after finishing breakfast, our empty plates remained on the table until I took them to a waiter myself.
Another surprising detail was the lack of a proper salt and pepper mill, which is something I’d expect in a place of this level. Additionally, the entrance door gets stuck, letting in cold air, which made the experience a bit uncomfortable.
On the positive side, the interior is beautifully decorated, creating a warm and inviting space. The location is decent for winter, but since there’s no real view, it’s not the best choice for those looking for scenery.
Pricing is reasonable during the day, but the evening menu prices do increase noticeably.
Overall, Tsalapetinos has potential, but a few details—like service, freshness in ingredients, and minor inconveniences—keep it from being a...
Read moreWe came here for a takeaway to bring back to our hotel on Boxing Day. It was very busy but the staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was ready to take with us in 20 minutes. We had the falafel, blue cheese salad and chicken with onion cream sauce and they were delicious, especially the chicken. My one point of feedback is that the walnuts in the salad were coated with sugar, which made the salad slightly too much on the sweet side. This is a minor quibble though and overall it was excellent. Will...
