First of all: the beach and the water are really beautiful, with the surrounding rocks and Hill its an amazing Landscape. During our stay (end of September) it offers a small Snack Truck Up the dunes, also some sunbeds and umbrellas (30€ for 2 beds and 1 umbrella!) and also a Guy who sells Donuts and Drinks on the beach....but better to bring yourself everything you want and need! So in total its worth the way, which is in neither Variation not easy. Either you walk, more climb through the mountain from Agios Nikitas. Very steep and good shoes and even better condition arr needed, not to recommend with small Kids. The more comfortable way is to take a water taxi from Agios Nikitas Beach - If they Work... On the beach, there are no official signs, information, timetable or anything which could give Idea how the service works. Only a small "Road" in the water, which leads to the beach, gives a clue that this could be the spot where you enter the boat. When we arrived at Agios Nikitas Beach around 10am, plenty of people were waiting already, but none of the boats which were anchoring in the bay were in service or even looked like they will be in service soon. Around 11am, after more and more potential passengers came and some of them already gave up waiting, we found a person who told us that the boats will start operating at 11:30am, because the wheater forecast for this day was not good (by the way the weather was all the time perfect) and thats why none of the boat owners showed up by now but now they will come. This happened at 12pm when we finally took off for Mylos Beach. The Ride itself is 5€ per Person and per direction, only to pay in Cash, and takes not even 10 minutes. Make sure to wear watershoes as you will have to walk through the water while entering and leaving the boats. For going back we only got the information that the Last boat will depart at 6pm, but no other departures were announced. So when the time comes you want to leave, watch constantly If the boat appears behind the rock and then be quick to prepare yourself and go to the place where the boat will stop, otherwise you will not make it because only sitting passengers are allowed and there were a lot of people who wanted to go Back at the same time. So, also in our case, the first boat left without us and plenty of other people who had to wait the next. Because it was already 5:30pm everybody thought that the boat will come back immediately after dropping the first passenger load in Agios Nikitas - which didn't happen. We had to wait another 30min for nobody knows which reason until the same boat came back empty to pick us up. Of course it didn't fit again all waiting people and who knows how long the remaining people had to wait...so long story short, the water taxi service is a convenient way to reach the beach but you maybe must be very patient and lucky that the people who do this service are willing to work, especially when it's not...
Read moreMilos beach is a beautiful on the West coast of Lefkas which is immediately to the south of Agios Nikitas village. Only a few years ago it was quite difficult to get to, which was perfect for those who like to be away from the crowds. But it is said that a road is being planned, This is sad in some ways because Lefkada will lose one of the last beautiful unspoilt beaches. But that is progress? For now, until the road arrives, there are only two ways on to Milos beach; by foot and by boat.To walk to the beach you should walk from the start of the pedestrianised road through Agios Nikitas village, down towards the sea. About one third of the way to the sea you will pass a taverna on the left. Just after the taverna is the start of a path which climbs steeply and quickly above the village. At one point you will be almost abobe the little beach of Agios Nikitas village, where you can take a nice photograph of the village. Continue climbing along the path until you reach the top. You will see here the remains of the old windmill (Milos = windmill). Continue and the path starts to drop. Sometimes that path down to the beacg can be a bit steep and difficult, but they are improvong it. Soon you will be on a beautiful beach and , until the road arrives, unspoilt. An easier way, during July and August, is to take one of the taxi boats from Agios Nikitas town beach. They will take you, and a few other, to Milos beach and then continue to Hathisma beach. Be careful, especially if there are strong winds or waves, as you will need to take the boat back as well. Be clear with the skipper what time you are to be ready for the boat back to Agios Nikitas.
Read moreDefinitely one of Lefkada's best beaches! The walk is not as hard as some other reviews suggest. I'm not a fit person in any sense and have a bad knee and it took me & my family about 25 minutes to reach the beach. You have to climb some stairs from Agios Nikitas and follow the dirt path uphill then you descend the curving path and stairs down to the beach. I totally recommend taking some better shoes (like trainers) to be comfortable & sure on the path (though my brother did manage in his flip flops).
It is true that there is a water taxi going from Agios Nikitas to Mylos and back but be sure to check whether it is working on the day because if the waves are high and it is windy (as it often is during September which is when we went) it might not go. But truly, the walk is not bad and it offer some pretty spectacular views from above.
The beach terrain is made of very small pebbles and the crystalline water plus the rocky hills with the trees above make for one of the most pristine Lefkadan beaches (at least, compared to other close and more accessible beaches). It was not crowded at all when we went as the beach is rather long.
There is also a food truck on the sandy hill framing the beach. While not exactly high end cuisine, you will not die of thirst or hunger. And they make a pretty decent frappè. Though we are not completely sure about its opening hours, it was open during the first week of September which is considered off-season.
As for hiding from the sun during midday, there are sunbeds & umbrellas for rent on site if that's your thing or you can bring your own umbrella (as we did). On the far side of the beach, the rocks above even offer some natural shade.
Overall, I absolutely recommend spending a day...
