Even if it’s the less crowded beach of the top3 (Balos, Falasarna and Elafonisi) you still have the feeling that the whole island is on this single beach, it is extremely crowded. We were already here in 2022 and that time we could find free sunbeds for 10-15€ until 12:00.. Today we arrived at 10:00 and everything was taken (or reserved, some parts of the beach must be reserved and payed in advence one day before you come). The prices went crazy, as I sad, in 2022 we could take 2 sunbeds and 1 umbrella with 10-15€, now they cost 90-100€ in the first line, 60€ above the second line and the cheapest ones cost 40€ in the back and as I sad, everything was taken by 10:00 in the morning. Some guy told us that at 9:00 is evrything reserved, so you have to come even earlier. There are also some changes since 2022, they stopped the music, that time every part of the beach had very loud and played different type of music at the same time, now is much more quiet, you can hear only some silent music from the back part, where you find the caffes (frappe round 2,50€) and restaurants (pyta gyros around 4,50€) of the beach. They also took out a lot of sunbeds, so you have now much more space for your own umbrellas, maybe that is also one reason why it is even crowded than 2 years ago. Parking is still free and you can eat or drink what you want, there are some caffes and restaurants. The water is just cristal clear, you can see the bottom of the see even at 50m inside, it’s really amazing and beautiful....
Read moreBeautiful if some weather conditions help. Tips:check Windfinder or Poseidon Systems wind and waves, if wind above 4 Beaufort and especially from the west choose other day, the sand blast will ruin the experience. Also put on Maps Falasarna beach parking, the free municipal parking lot instead of Mega Parking paid. If the weather is bad and it is a Ref Flag forbidden swimming you can go other place with no payment. This parking it's right before a tavern called Gilisma. Other important tip:even walking a little bit from the free parking, when look at the sea go to the left(south point on map)where you see an artificial rock pier. There you can put your umbrella even if it is some wind or stay on towel with some shadow.Near the pier you can even arrive in a little cove all shadow(very limited places). You'll see there even some pink sand(if you want more go 1 km south to Tiny beach not 70 km to see same amount on Elafonissi). At this end part of the beach looks like a splendid pool, waves smaller when on big part of beach are huge. After you will see a lot of people coming from the very expensive sunbeds to take pictures here you'll understand that paying almost nothing values much more! Also there can park for free on a medium large place or both part of the road behind the pier where Falasarna beach ends on...
Read moreI came to this beach 2 times during my stay and the waves were huge each time. First time a bit smaller so we could be in a water for a bit, but second time the waves were so big and currant was so strong it was dangerous to be in the water. Lifeguards had to intervene and pull out people from the water 3 times in less than an hour! If you came here to swim, just forget about it. If you are lucky, you can enjoy in the waves if they are smaller, but do not go in the deep waters as you can get killed for sure. The wind was not that strong, but before you go to any beach in Crete, take a look at the wind situation on some website like Meteo Greece or something. They are pretty accurate. We had an ok day in Falassarna beach, because we brought our own umbrella and placed it near the rocks on the left side of the beach (left if you are facing the water). I think it is a good hideaway from the winds because we didn’t feel the wind almost at all. There is pink sand on that side of the beach, and if you climb up those rocks maybe you can have some nice pics. All in all, the beach is okay, but not for swimming. And listen to lifeguards, they know what...
