We visited the Lava Show at Vik for my 40th birthday and what a treat it was!! The bar was well stocked and the food menu and prices were great! The show itself was spectacular, and the host was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and had a great sense of humour. The show was just mesmerising and something I never thought I’d ever see. It really is a unique and amazing experience for all ages, and a memory that will last a lifetime time!! Highly recommended to everyone visiting Iceland! Within my review I must include a special thank you to Tom and Luca who work at the Lava Show. When I left after the show I stupidly left behind my hat, snood, gloves and thermal top which my children gave me as a gift to keep me warm on my holiday to Iceland. I contacted the venue within an hour and explained what I had done, by this time the snow was very heavy and it was dark on our drive back to Reykjavik, so we didn’t feel comfortable turning around and driving back. Let me tell you, I initially spoke to Luca on the phone who promised to look for my items and return them to me by post if found, he requested that I emailed over my details and within 5 minutes I had a response to say the items had been found and would be posted to me as soon as possible. This was on 17th December and today 27th December I took delivery of a box containing not only my missing items, but a wonderful piece of cooled lava inside a little gift bag for me to keep which I’ve now displayed in my home. I’ve asked for payment details so I can reimburse the team for the cost of postage, however I am yet to receive a response. I honestly have no words for the customer service experience I have had, and the pure act of kindness of two gentlemen who went above and beyond for a stranger for no personal gain. I am so very grateful to them both and I hope the wonderful service that they have provided and the kindness that they’ve shown me is rewarded in some way. I will be paying forward this act of kindness in their names. Thank you Tom, Luca and the Lava Show team at Vik, what lovely...
Read moreDate, October 18th, 2024. Place Vik, Iceland. Status, on honeymoon with my amazing and most wonderful wife. We wake up 4 days into our honeymoon after seeing northern lights, countless waterfalls, enjoying day spas and geothermal springs, and think to ourselves, wow, how could this trip get any better. Cue, LAVA SHOW. We had constantly seen ads for the lava show and decided, let's book tickets for that on our way back through Vik.
Fast forward to October 20th, date of the lava show. We have continued to see more waterfalls, mountains, volcanoes (from a far) black beaches, glaciers, icebergs and seals. The trip was beyond perfect. We arrive at the Lava show in Vik about an hour early as we learned they had an accompanying soup restaurant inside. The soup; amazing. Get a bowl and your allowed one free refill (not needed because we were full). An hour later, LAVA SHOW. The show starts off learning about Iceland, it's landscape, volcanoes, and about prior eruptions. Then, the main attraction, LAVA. We were told to all remove any jackets/coats as the lava entered the room as it would get hot. They were not wrong. The moment lava starts pouring into the room, the heat is immediately upon you (but in a good way). The lava inches closer, you back up, the lava inches closer again, you back up one more time until the lava rests. The show does NOT stop there. I do not want to spoil the rest, but the show is truly a must-see. We left feeling euphoric after seeing this dangerous, yet beautiful element of nature in such a close and intimate environment.
Here's a photo of our reactions during...
Read moreWhile planning a recent trip to Iceland I was hopeful we could squeeze in The Lava Show and luckily we were able to! We were in the town of Vik for an ice cave tour and decided to check for availability. We were able to book the same day, on-line, for the time we wanted. When we arrived we gave our name to check in and were then able to walk into the showroom. It's a small room so you get a more intimate show and everyone gets a great view. They provide safety glasses to wear during the lava portion of the show. Our host was wonderful. He gave some personal information about himself and life in Vik, a history of how the Lava Show came to be along with great information about volcanoes in Iceland, but specifically Katla (where we were). There was an informative video that shared additional information about volcanoes along with a personal story of a farmer during the last Katla eruption in 1918. After the video you put on your safety glasses and got to watch real lava in a contained environment. As soon as the lava entered the room you could feel the heat! We got to watch it pour in then the host showed us different aspects of the lava during the initial process to eventual cooling. At the end it was opened up to a Q&A. You were able to see and feel real lava and it was extremely informative. My 11 year old son loved everything about it and purchased a piece of dragon glass after the show. I highly recommend this show for families with children visiting the area but it is also great for people...
