Four of us were on a tour and came to the Lava Cafe for lunch. This spot serves coffee, sandwiches, soup, baked goods and pasta. After ordering at the counter, one of the employees quickly heated our sandwiches and packed a container full of pasta. A single serving of pasta is HUGE! When the employee heard that two of us were going to share it, he scooped a little extra into the box. We really appreciated his thoughtfulness… the box must have weighed at least two pounds and we could barely finish it!
There were two types of pasta that day, a vegetarian pesto and a chicken pasta. I got the CHICKEN PASTA which was tossed in a flavorful tomato sauce that tasted like it was also infused with bell peppers. There wasn’t a lot of chicken, but the pieces were nice and lean. The pasta itself was a little gummy after sitting under the heat at the counter, but that is to be expected since it's not cooked to order.
Two people in my group got sandwiches which they enjoyed. One of them said that the breakfast sandwich in particular was very filling.
There was an ample amount of seating around the corner from the counter in addition to a fountain that dispensed crisp Icelandic tap water. This was a great spot for us to grab a quick hot meal before we had to hop back onto...

When I asked to speak to a manager they lied that there is no manager and one the of arrogant staff came and said that I would have to contend with him - he tells us that they were too busy and acknowledged that their behaviour was inappropriate.
A few minutes later I found out that the ice Cave and Lava cafe were owned by the same person and I spoke to this pleasant Icelandic gentleman Thorgeir who was the manager, he was calming and apologetic for the behaviour of the employees.
Unfortunately the workers who come for summer jobs don’t care for reputation of Iceland or...
Read moreThis is a high traffic bakery and cafe at the large shopping complex off Route 1 in Vik sharing space with Kronan and a large Icewear shop. They have a large indoor seating area and are open from 9am to 6pm daily. This is a busy cafe with loads of tourists making stopovers at this complex. Expect queues to order and be on the lookout for free seating and tables. Menu features an expected range of bakery items and cafe dishes and drinks.
We tried their cinnamon roll which was ok. Americano and espresso were similarly ok, nothing great nor bad. Not a memorable eatery tried during our recent visit to Iceland but conveniently located if you are stopping by the Kronan and/or Icewear...
