I should have read the reviews. I rarely weat anywhere less than 4.5 UNLESS personally recommended. This was barely mid. The place itself is nice…simple in decor with understated elegance so you could dress up or down if you like. The service left much to be desired. The person who seated me took my order and she was pushy to say the least. She asked me so many times did I want a drink that I feared ordering one so I did not. I thought maybe that’s just her way of being attentive then I watched her take up the plate (an unfinished plate) of a nearby guest. She’s either on something and not in a good way or maybe she’s just not a good server. I thought perhaps the bar or kitchen were closing soon but she said not for an hour and a half. It came off rude and inconsiderate. I ordered the scallops and the lamb pate. Food looked pretty but the taste was mid at best. I saw other plates and plating for the chef is an A+ but the taste was meh 🫤 for sure. Definitely not worth the price or the 20 minutes it took from me ordering to receiving to consuming. Fast food here for sure and bad service. If you’re really hungry, save your money and go to subway or I think I saw an Asian food place. I frequent traveler and have long eaten the best of foods …I’ve also been a chef and a server…this place was on one of worst experiences...
Read moreGreat restaurant in Vik. You typically have to make an advance reservation and pre-order your meal, but it is totally worth it.
We pre-ordered for an entire family of 23 people and they were great. A bit of confusion on who ordered what as they didn’t keep track, but we were able to figure it all out as the meal progressed.
We basically tried everything on the menu and with a couple of exceptions, it was all beautifully plated and tasted great.
Very little complaints, but two small critiques. For the tenderloin dish, they didn’t ask the temp of the meat before preparing the meal and some of the steaks came out Medium, when they should have been Medium-rare. And then only two of the desserts were truly spectacular. The panna cotta and crème brûlée cheesecake were really delicious. The carrot cake and chocolate creamiuex were just ok.
Otherwise, everything from the Lamb to the chicken, to the Arctic Char and most of the starters(except lamb pate) were great.
We are going to do dinner here two nights in a row. So overall very pleased. As for service, we had 3 dedicated servers for our table and they were all attentive. They even closed the curtains to the other half of the restaurant so we wouldn’t bother other guests with our loudness and also to give us some privacy. It was...
Read moreVery surprising that this restaurant has only a 4.4 average star rating. It's absolutely amazing. Drinks, food, atmosphere, service; it was all fantastic. The only thing that can be said that's not super positive is that it's pricey - but for a high end restaurant in a fancy hotel that's par for the course. The menu offers more choices than most restaurants in Iceland outside of Reykjavik. We started with scallops (perfectly prepared), then local fish (salmon - non fatty and much better quality than what you get in most restaurants, again perfectly prepared; and arctic char, both from the nearby bay). Then ice cream, which somehow they made different and better. Nice wine. Perfect dinner experience. Six out of five. Again, not cheap - that's the only downside. But the price is not unreasonable for the type of plane and quality of food - and given the average expense in Iceland, it's good...
