Ate dinner here while visiting Black Sand Beach! It had later hours than other restaurants and you have a nice view of the beach and flowers if you sit on back towards windows. Even being outside you could smell the food and it was smelling very good! They have quite the menu and lots of local Icelandic beers too! I don’t usually like lamb but tried the lamb chops and I must say, they were the best chops I’ve had! We also tried a pasta dish and it was extremely delicious as well with high quality chicken in it as well. The calamari was a bust unfortunately however it was late and maybe was a fluke so won’t hold it against them. The staff was very friendly, waitress came to help and answer any questions we had and made recommendations for us as well! After eating another guy asked how our food and everything was. Seemed like a small business with people who care about what they do and value your experience and feedback! They have water at the table and other drinks to order. The food quality was superb and we will be back! It’s also conveniently located and attached to a petrol station as well! You can walk on the beach and right into dinner or lunch! The entrance is on the back of the building if gas station is closed. Highly recommend this place! We can’t wait to try more...
Read moreWe chose this place when we stopped with our bus tour. We were given 1 hour for lunch we stepped off the bus and went directly to the restaurant so we could eat and then go souvenir shopping. The restaurant was empty, nobody even at the counter. We thought it was closed because nobody came out for about 3-4 minutes. When she did she told us we could sit anywhere and she took our order after about 10 minutes. About 4 more tables filled up and as the clock started ticking away, I went up to the counter and very politely asked how much longer as we had only 20 minutes left at this point to eat. Very unfriendly girl said this is not fast food… a dig on me being American I felt… and said she’ll check… to which I said I know it’s not I was just asking. At this point all 5 of us wanted to leave but there wouldn’t be time to get food elsewhere and we were starving. She came out and said 10 more minutes, at this point I was fuming from that comment. They HAVE to know they’re business stems from the bus tours that have short windows of opportunity to eat. I would not recommend this place at all specifically because the staff should not be in the customer service business! Food was not great either, I would’ve been better off...
Read moreTucked behind The Wok, Ströndin Pub offers a cosy, rustic atmosphere with wood-panelled walls, sturdy wooden tables, and a sand-coloured floor that nods to the nearby beach. The pub’s logo is prominently displayed inside, adding a local touch.
As you enter, you’ll find the bar immediately on your left. Towards the back, there’s a relaxed lounge area with couches, a dartboard, and large windows that frame the dramatic Icelandic landscape.
A few TVs play glacier-themed adverts, and there’s complimentary water available.
Mains: Arctic Char:A generous portion of local Arctic char served with mashed potatoes and a side salad. The fish, resembling salmon in appearance, was fresh but lacked flair or creativity in presentation. The mashed potatoes, however, were well done—smooth and creamy. The salad was standard and unremarkable.
Traditional Icelandic Fish Stew A far more satisfying choice: this dish combined poached cod with mashed potatoes and onions, delivering a creamy and comforting flavour. Topped with a rich béarnaise sauce and melted cheese, it was a hearty and well-balanced local classic.
Service The service was friendly and attentive, with meals arriving promptly.
