The festival has taken over the city with exhibits, art installations, and murals by national as well as international artists, from Mahim East and Bandra, to Churchgate Station and Jindal Mansion. This year, it is also brought in collaboration with the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPA) to commemorate the 150th anniversary of one of Mumbai’s oldest docks, the Sassoon Dock in Colaba. Speaking of the importance of Sassoon Dock for the festival, co-founder and artistic director of St+Art India, Hanif Kureshi, says, “A festival like this, especially in partnership with the Mumbai Port Trust can unlock venues that people hardly visit, just like Sassoon Dock, which has been a part of Mumbai’s platforms on which the city is built—the fishing communities. But not many people, even those who live around it, visit it. Sassoon Docks has had this age-old problem of a fishy smell because it's a fishing dock. Eight thousand residents around the dock signed a petition to get rid of the smell. Most of them have never even been to the docks. But once the festival was on, the intensity of the smell has lowered and it has made a lot of these residents come to the dock to see it; they feel proud that something like this is happening in their area.”

Mumbai Urban Art Festival is only for true Art lovers who are looking for a thought provoking art. Here's a detailed review about the famous Mumbai Urban Art Festival. Be prepared for the pungent fish smell as it everywhere throughout the location. Carry a amak or a scarf to minimise the smell. Try to arrive as early as possible to avoid long queues. Reach the location in the morning itself to avoid long queues. Free car parking is available inside the premises of Sassoon Docks. Just head straight inside the premises and ask any of the gaurds for car parking inside. However the parking spots are limited there try to arrive early. You can expect atleast 10-15 minutes of wait time during no peak hours and atleast 30-50 minutes of waiting in peak hours. Art Installation 1 is much more beautiful than the other two art projects. So prioritise on that. Expect atleast a 4-5 hour commitment during both peak and non peak hours. Do try to visit this place 30 mins prior to its opening time to avoid waiting in long queues. For me, art projects 2 and Asian Paints house was not much worth it.

The mural depicted in the image is a striking example of urban artistry, transforming a commonplace wall into a vibrant tableau that narrates cultural and historical tales. The bold use of colors and intricate detailing of human figures in various poses and traditional attire suggest a deep connection to the heritage of a specific community. Architectural elements such as arches interspersed within the mural add a layer of depth and complexity, inviting viewers to delve into the visual narrative. This piece of wall art not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the urban environment but also serves as a public testament to the power of storytelling through visual means. It enriches the cultural fabric of the locality, offering both residents and visitors a glimpse into the rich tapestry of the community’s history and traditions. Such murals are invaluable in fostering a sense of identity and pride, while also beautifying the urban landscape.
