The only place in South Jakarta for me to find any fabrics to create from haute couture dress to home curtains or bedding sheets. So many stores there that sometimes make you headache to decide, but once you're get in, you might refuse to get out. Most of these fabric stores also offer their service to sizing, design, and do the tailor for you, from a dress to a set of suits.
The price is average, couldn't say its cheaper if I must compare with similar fabrics market in East Jakarta or South Tangerang, but since it's closer from my place in South Jakarta, I wouldn't mind to go there rather waste my times to go far for small different price. Some stores are having their fixed price, but some you can still do a bargain game, especially if you spend a lot.
They also has some cosmetics/salon stuffs outlets, fresh market, restaurants, spa/massage, and even some housewares stores or special occasions materials such as wedding baskets.
My favorite place is Toko Maju, a small hidden store provides you with tons of accesories, applications, or whatever you need to do your knicks knacks sewing/creation, such as ribbons, buttons, lace, fake fur, threads, etc. The store is like a 3 storeys labirynth, once you get inside, you'll get lost need someone to assist you to find the end of the tunnel. They accept cash/debit/credit card payment, and they open Monday to Sunday 9am to 5pm. Everyone knows this place, so don't hesitate to ask anyone you see in the market, they can easily direct you where to go.
One thing you should be aware of this Mayestik Market is of course the hectic traffic. There are several entry gates, and they have some spaces inside to park your vehicles. I prefer to take the entry gate from Jalan Tebah (back) instead of the main gate, and if I don't go for gigantic shopping galore, I prefer to take a taxi and stop out of the gate then continue by walk to get in to the market.
Weekend is always the most busy time, if I need to go there on the weekend, I prefer to do it early in the morning like 9am when some stores just opened and out...
Read moreA great place to shop for fabrics, Batiks, and other articles of clothing with various price ranges. There are SO MANY stores, I even dare to say there are more than a hundred stores in the entire area. The stores vary in the items and services they sell. There are stores that sell fabrics, blouses, pants, Batiks in various forms, uniforms, and even services, like stitching fabrics and fixing jewelry. You would oftentimes find yourself going there to buy one thing and come out with multiple bags from multiple stores. Just going to your designated store would mean you'd have to pass tons of stores offering you items with affordable prices. There is also a traditional market where you can buy various fruits, vegetables, and meats at the basement of the main Mayestik building. My one complaint is that it's very crowded, but there's not really anything that the company who made this place can do to fix that. If you want to go here with a car, then I suggest you park outside of the area, in a spot that's not too far away. Thousands go here everyday and many go with their cars, which blocks the whole road altogether. I don't even know how these cars manage to exit this shopping area. We always park outside to avoid the huge, oftentimes, unmoveable traffic jam on...
Read moreMayestik Market (Indonesian: Pasar Mayestik) is a modern traditional market at Kebayoran Baru, in Jakarta, Indonesia. Drugs and cosmetics, jewelry, clothing and tailors, vegetables and fruits, meat and fish, book store, sports equipment, almost everything needed for daily life are available in this market. This market was present since the 1950s, though it was officially inaugurated in 1981.2] While the Kebayoran Baru area began to be built in the late 1940s as one of the new satellites in Jakarta, the Mayestik area was the location of the halls of residence. A row of neat houses, shady trees, beautiful surroundings neatly arranged. If it was once on the edge, now Kebayoran Baru.
In 2010, renovation of the market started and on June 16, 2012, was inaugurated by then Governor of DKI Jakarta...
