I recently had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Gran Mahakam, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations in every way. Located in a prime area, this hotel offers a unique concept that combines luxury, convenience, and a culinary adventure all in one.
Let's start with the concept. Hotel Gran Mahakam stands out from other hotels in the area due to its distinctive design and ambiance. The interior decor is a perfect blend of contemporary elegance and traditional Indonesian elements, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. From the moment I entered the lobby, I was greeted by friendly staff members who made me feel right at home.
One of the standout features of this hotel is its strategic location. Situated in a vibrant neighborhood, it is surrounded by numerous food corners, offering a plethora of dining options just steps away. Whether you're craving local delicacies, international cuisine, or something in between, you'll find it all within a short walking distance from the hotel. This proximity to various food options allows guests to explore and indulge in the vibrant culinary scene of the city.
Now, let's talk about the dining experience at the hotel's restaurant. The resto at Hotel Gran Mahakam is an absolute delight for food enthusiasts. The menu features an impressive array of dishes that cater to different tastes and preferences. From traditional Indonesian favorites to international specialties, the restaurant offers a diverse selection that guarantees to please even the most discerning palates.
In addition to the delectable food, the restaurant's ambiance was delightful. The cozy yet elegant setting provided a relaxed atmosphere that was perfect for enjoying a meal. The staff members were attentive and knowledgeable, ready to offer recommendations and ensure that my dining experience was...
Read moreThe Gran Mahakam is not just any hotel. Even the taxi driver called it a legend in Jakarta. When you first enter, you think of a scene from Kevin Alone at Home. Everything is dignified, the furnishings and the building are wonderfully classic. Like a grand hotel in Vienna.
But there is one small difference. Just as the Gran is missing the fifth letter in its name, everything in the Gran Mahakam is a little smaller. The entrance hall, the square in front of the hotel, the pool on the roof. But that was never a problem for me.
There are other things that I haven't seen anywhere else. Ironed and daily changed shower curtains, a small in-house clinic or personalised surprises for a guest's birthday. Also worth mentioning is the favourable location in the middle of an incredible selection of excellent restaurants, all within walking distance.
But the most important thing that the Gran Mahakam has that sets it apart from most other good hotels: It has character, a kind of personality, or let's just call it a soul.
The wonderful thing about this hotel is the people who work here. And it's not primarily about the fact that I, as a guest, am addressed with exemplary friendliness by each and every one of them. The most important thing is the team spirit of the staff. The colleagues work as a team. At the Gran Mahakam, there is only one ‘we’.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the management for this. This is only possible if the demands placed on employees are feasible and not superhuman, as is unfortunately all too often the case. And when the focus is not on profit, but on satisfied guests.
There is no doubt that the Gran Mahakam rightly bears this title: We are one of the Best Hotels in the World.
Leaving now feels like a loss. I will...
Read moreDefinitely one of the most underrated hotel buffet in Jakarta. We've come here many times for weekend brunch and it's always a spot on experience. Le Gran Cafe buffet does lack in options but it is compensated very well with the quality and taste of their food. Everything we try is always good, everytime. And they have the nicest, most helpful, most un-intrusive serve crew ever!
Our highlight this time are: Salmon sushi & sashimi: thick cut, fresh, satisfying. Duck with orange sauce: Tender, fatty, fresh and zesty sweet. Aus lamb kambing guling: Nuff said, tender, succulent, a little bit gamey just the way we like it. Nasi Liwet: This hotel really understand indonesian food well, naturally the nasi liwet tasted robust and authentic. Almost as good as the ones that pasar grannies sell in Solo. Mushroom Cream Soup: Better than most of the swankiest hotels brunch in Jakarta.
And don't forget dessert, again, limited options but the quality is top notch. Their banana lekker and kue tete paired with homemade coffee and matcha ice cream is bomb! Even the fruits are sweeter and higher quality than hotel brunch buffets twice their price.
Our guess it is because they run a more intimate operations so they're able ensure the quality and taste of each food that comes out. As oppose to massive operations in Jakarta most popular weekend brunch.
So if you're looking for a relaxed, intimate brunch experience where there's no angry food queue and your station order always come perfectly cooked please do come here, they deserve more appreciation. And ask for deals, they have a bunch of those buy-1-get-1...
