EDIT: Aquaman team reached out to us after our review, visited us at our hotel, apologized again and as a symbolic gesture, refunded our snorkeling trip fees. They said they will have safety meetings to make sure similar accidents don't happen again. They seem to be taking the incident seriously and taking action on safety. That was part of my objective of writing the review - hence the edit and the update of review from one star to three stars. Will keep the review up in case it might help future customers though.
We had a very bad experience due to a combination of rough waters that day and unsafe riding of the boat. The boat was going full speed and head on into very big waves and we had many instances of the nose of the boat being thrown into the air followed by a free fall of several meters and a very hard landing. It was a full boat and we were sitting at the front row with nowhere to hold onto. Together with the others sitting close to the nose of the boat, 6-8 of us took the brunt of the impact. One big wave throw all of us into the air and smashed us back into our seats. My partner slipped and fell, hurting his lower back and knee in the process. Aquaman team were very apologetic about the incident, slowed down immediately after and stopped going into the waves head on with full speed. Same big waves felt a lot more manageable then but the damage was already done. We had to get medical help after the trip, ligaments inside my partner's knee are strained & swollen and he needs to use crutches for several days, and full recovery will probably take longer. In addition to the pain and the medical bills, we will likely have to cancel our other plans for the rest of our trip. All these could have been avoided with safe riding. I am not writing this to hurt their business (and other companies' practices may not be very different either) but hopefully as a learning for Aquaman that safety really comes first, and to avoid similar accidents in the future. An incident like this can undo all the other good experiences and affect people for a lot longer than the trip itself, so it's not worth rushing it to save a few minutes of boat ride. And hopefully this review will also give future customers more awareness so they could warn the Aquaman team against fast and unsafe rides even before the trip starts because it's very difficult to do anything about it when you are in the middle of it. Also if the water seems choppy, maybe avoid the front...
Read moreREAD FULL REVIEW- we witnessed a medical emergency. Edit: Kaden the tour guide was amazing , he makes the tour fun and very helpful. The second time we did the tour it was better weather, and we saw so many manta rays!! Saw around 10 manta rays it was incredible, turtles and lots of fish.
Tour is split with 3 sites Manta point The sea was too full of other snorkelers. Didn’t see any manta rays on my first tour as the weather was too windy, saw lots of manta on second tour due to better weather. Turtle point at a beach area, water was warm here and more calm. Got to swim with a turtle!! Saw 3 turtles. Coral reef- amazing colours and so many fishes. Nemo and dory, barracuda, parrot fish etc.
Just wanted to mention if anyone is considering doing SCUBA diving in Indonesia (not related to aqua man company) I would avoid scuba diving. we witnessed someone lose consciousness and froth at the mouth, she could have well died. This was a separate tour, NOT aquaman, but I want to use this opportunity to warn people of scuba diving. Whilst we were in the boat we saw a lady from a different company scuba diving, she lost consciousness and didn’t wake up. She was frothing in the mouth on her back in the ocean and civilians had to try and save her. The health and safety was poor, and they don’t have the recommended safety equipment to save someone in an emergency. It took way too long to get her out of the water and we had to shout another boat to give her an oxygen tank, but she was already possibly dead. Just be aware the scuba diving instructor was not prepared in a...
Read moreWhilst on Gili Air, I was recommended to double check if the trip at Nusa went to Manta Point and, if so, book with them. A friend found Aquaman, and we read the 5 star reviews. We called by there at about 12 and he had just returned from morning snorkel. He confirmed that he went straight to Manta Point first early morning as best time to try and see the Mantas there. He also told us that the snorkeller took photos of the trip, and these would be shared with us afterwards. We paid and met the group at the harbour, leaving point the following morning as we were staying near to it. The trip was worth every penny. We were provided with great snorkels, flippers, and a towel. The journey to Manta Point was truly spectacular. You pass along the whole west coast of Nusa Penida. It is stunning from the boat. The water is pretty cold at Manta Point, but I soon warmed up when I saw the Mantas. They were amazing and swam so close to us. Our guide dived down with anyone who wanted a photo with them. We got towels when back on board and journeyed back along the west coast and headed to Mangrove Bay. We snorkelled here and saw a huge array of fish, a turtle, and several skools of fish. The water was very calm, warm, and clear. We then were given fresh fruit and snacks to eat before our final stop. The visibility wasn't as great here, and after 15 mins or so, the guide got us back on boat. But it didn't spoil the trip at all. The first two stops were incredible! The following day, I received all the photos taken by the snorkel guide as promised. Don't hesitate, book it and have...
