Read moreWe came here on a grey day in September. Didn't really expect that much but we really wanted to see some of the more famous graves.
We were BLOWN AWAY! We decided on taking the tour and that was worth every penny. Our guide John was one of the best guides I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. He was funny, knowledgeable and most of all very charming. The story's were really interesting and really came alive. Especially his rendition of a famous speech.
After the tour he actually came by and asked if he could give some suggestions of things to do. Since it was the final leg of our Irland tour I believe we should have maybe started in Dublin just to get some of his suggestions.
The museum itself was amazing. The city of the dead was fantastic. You could really tell this was someone's blood and sweat made real. I've never saw something cooler in a Museum. This is a way to get people interested.
All in all we loved it.
If anyone from the Museum reads this. You need to give John a promotion or at least a raise. He really loves what he does...
Read moreI have just done the Women in History tour at Glasnevin Cemetery. What a wonderful experience with an excellent tour guide, Niamh de Pair. Niamh was so knowledgeable and told the stories of these women in a very down to earth way, painting a picture of their lives and influence in Irish history, be it as a mother, wife, daughter, sister. The cemetery, grounds and facilities are exemplary, a lovely coffee shop/ restaurant and 2 very interesting exhibitions. I also climbed the 198 steps up the O Connell tower with amazing views from the top and a commentary on the tower as you climb.
I would highly recommend this tour and a visit, be it the Irish History or Women in History Tour. All the staff are welcoming, friendly and informative. A special thank you to our guide, Niamh, she showed her passion for the subject and admitted this is her favourite...
