This is the place where Omar (or Umar) ibn al-Khattab, the 2nd Caliph, offered prayers in the holy city of Jerusalem. In April 637, Caliph Umar traveled to Jerusalem in person to receive the submission of the city from the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Sophronius, who made it a condition of surrender. The Muslim troops besieged the city some time in November 636. Instead of relentless assaults on the city, they decided to press on with the siege until the Byzantines ran short of supplies and a bloodless surrender could be negotiated. Jerusalem remained under Muslim rule until it was captured by Crusaders in 1099 during...

Situated opposite the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. This is the place where Omar RA had prayed after taking over and been given the keys to Jerusalem. He was told to perform prayers in the Church but he refused and performed prayers outside the Church. Later this very place was then made into a mosque. It's a small mosque but very peaceful. The mosque is closed for the night prayers. The letter of the agreement between Omar and the Bishops of Jerusalem are also engraved on a stone before entering the doors...

Mosque built where Umar Al Khatab RA prayed when he entered old city of Jerusalem. It is a stones throw away from the church of the holy sepulchre. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) travelled from Madinah to Jerusalem where Sophronius, the Christian Patriarch of Jerusalem, offered him the ‘keys’ to the city. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) entered the city of Jerusalem on foot with no bloodshed or harassment of the inhabitants.

A smaller mosque within the Jerusalem walls. Has plenty of history but is sadly quite forgotten about as it isnt close to the Dome of the Rock. It’s quite hidden away as it is tucked into the Christian Quarter but be sure to make the effort to visit it!
