One of the interesting things to see in the Valley of Jehoshaphat is the Tomb of Zechariah, an ancient monument situated next to the Tomb of Benei Hezir between the Old City and Mount of Olives. Here you find a tomb carved directly out of the surrounding land. The bottom portion is cube shaped with embedded ionic columns, while the top is pyramid shaped. You can walk up close to the Tomb of Zechariah and Tomb of Benei Hezir if you want to see them up close. Alternatively, you can view these tombs quite well from the roadside just outside the Old City. Walk along Maale Ha-Shalom until you are just above the tomb. Here you will find a viewpoint, with layout map and audio machine that is well worth listening to while viewing the monuments below.

One of the most important and holy ancient monument of Israel. This place has an interesting history indeed which can further be verified through Biblical references. The place is seemingly interesting due to its strange architectural state of building. I'll recommend a glimpse of this place, even though its not much attractive.

Tomb is free and accessable from the king's path. You can climb up onto the tomb for nice views for the valley.

We traveled to our Holy Land, The State of Israel, on a journey of faith, visiting many important historical sites.

Jerusalem was unique for each stone, path, road, building is a treasure of history.

The tomb of Zacharias is a monolith monument —completely carved out of the solid rock and does not contain a burial chamber.

The lowest part of the monument is a crepidoma, a base made of three steps. Above it there is a stylobate, upon which there is a decoration of two ionic columns between two half ionic columns and at the corners there are two pilasters.

The capitals are of the Ionic order and are decorated with the egg-and-dart decoration. The upper part of the monument is an Egyptian-style cornice upon which sits a pyramid.

The fine masonry and decoration that is visible on the western side, the facade, is only the western side.

On the other sides of the tomb the work is extremely rough and unfinished; it seems as if the work was stopped before the artists could finish the job.

Looking at the sites, experiencing being there, was an honor... we are blessed to have been able to journey to our Holy Land in...
