Monte Solaro is easily one of the most spectacular places in Capri. Rising over 500 metres above sea level it offers panoramic views that are absolutely stunning, from the rugged coastline of the island to the sparkling Bay of Naples and on a clear day all the way to Mount Vesuvius and the Amalfi Coast.
The chairlift ride from Anacapri to the summit is a peaceful experience in itself. You slowly ascend over terraced gardens lemon trees and quiet rooftops with the gentle sea breeze and the occasional sound of church bells below. It is calm meditative and completely unique.
At the top the views are beyond words. You feel like you are on top of the world far away from the busy tourist-filled piazzas. There is a small café where you can enjoy a drink while soaking in the views and plenty of perfect photo spots.
Tip: If you are feeling energetic you can walk down instead of taking the chairlift back. It is a scenic trail through nature though a bit steep in places. Try to go early in the morning or later in the day to avoid heat and crowds.
Monte Solaro is an absolute must when visiting Capri. Peaceful beautiful and...
Read moreWe took the chair lift to the top and the view is amazingly spectacular!! Its 11€ round trip. But you can always go one way and walk back down. There is a great sitting area at the top where you can get a cold or hot drink and sit and enjoy the view. We went on August 31st and it wasnt very crowded at all. When you get on the chair lift be aware of the following: 1. The chairs do not completely stop they slow down so you can get on. The attendants are awesome they tell you where to stand and what to do. 2. The guard rail that hooks in front of you doesnt lock so be sure to keep it down, lean back, secure any loose items and enjoy the ride. 3. When getting off, before you get to landing pay attention to the attendant. He will tell you know how to get off (again the chair only slows down so be ready to do a little quick hop getting off). If you have small children they will need to sit on your lap and you will need to hold them. I'm not sure how old you need to be, as a child, to ride this alone. Please be sure to ask at the window. All in all it's a MUST...
Read morePleasant ride up on the chairlift. The weather was El Scorchio so I decided to treat the ol' bread knife to an ice cream. "Two tubs of your pork-flavoured gelato, por favor, my good man!" I said. The icey-man gave me our two tubs and I queried the requisite price. "Pay at bar," the icey-man said, jerking his thumb over his shoulder in the general direction of 'away.' I suggested that given the slow-moving and extended queue at the bar behind him my two tubs of gelato would very soon become two cups of luke warm liquid before I could pay. "You pay at bar," Icey-Man repeated. "Keep your icies, Icey-Man!" I cried, placing both tubs on his counter while I gave him a Paddington Hard Stare. I then discovered that I could pay for my two rapidly melting tubs of gelato here at the icey counter after all. So...
