Fine dining with impeccable service and stunning seaside scenery rarely exist together, but somehow we were lucky enough to stumble upon this corner of paradise in Capri.
We normally plan ahead for all our dining experiences when we travel, however for our trip to Capri we wanted to just go with the flow and wing it. After a lovely little breakfast in the main square we took to our feet and explored the island by walking. By chance, we ended up walking done this hundreds and hundreds of steps down to one of the little beaches only to find this gem of a restaurant right on the beach and it’s own little cove.
It looks like the restaurant has has a recent renovation as the decor is bang up to date. We were greeted with smiles all around by the lovely attentive staff. We were seated by the window overlooking the restaurant’s private beach, the photos speak for themselves, the definition of paradise. The menu was unexpected as it’s more akin to a Michelin starred fine dining experience, prices are on the high side but totally expected for such a location and level of service. The staff were very very attentive but not intrusive, our water glasses were always topped up and we constantly fussed over with fresh plates and cutlery etc. The food was cooked fresh and came in a timely manner. Even though the prices are high we weren’t expecting the food to be this good in such a location. Both our pastas were cooked to perfect and ingredients fresh from the sea in true fine dining style. The desert was exquisite and a perfect way to end our dining experience here. Congratulations to Salvatore and his front of house team for making our time here such a memorable one. We’ve had a lot of great meals on this trip, but the one here at Da Gioria will be the one to remember for many years to come. It really made our trip to Capri that more special. Highly recommend that anyone coming to Capri to get a booking here at Da Gioria. But I’d recommend taking the bus or taxi down to the beach, the...
Read moreWhat a joke of a restaurant. Standing at the door leaving and couldn’t wait to write my review. Beautiful place but what can I say about the mediocre food and the cheap service? Ordered calamari and “prawns” at 50€ as an appetizers after the waiter recommended it as.a big and filling appetizer hahahah. (Also checked photos of the dish in instagram which looked quite delicious and respectable in portion. What I actually recieved was fried calamari and miniature shrimps that were not even edible ! No problem! Asked the manager to return them he said they would deduct them from the invoice. Invoice arrived and here was the dish at full price, and manager pretending not to understand and pretending to be serving us hiqgh quality and normal portion. Didn’t offer to even offer a drink or anything, was arguing with us that the size was normal. Honey, people who come to 5 star restaurants know what prawns are and u can’t fool them. We’re staying for 10 days on the island , we had already tried la bianca from La Palma and were planning on trying other places by La Palma’s and now we definetly won’t, not 5 star service , actually cheap and arrogant service with 0 know how and respect. Please just...
Read moreThe host is a punk! We arrived late morning and there was nobody around except for this one guy who looked like a bum. All the chairs/bed were empty so we took a look at the menu, waiting for someone to help us. After 5 mins without being attended to, we decided to grab a couple of chairs to settle in, with the intention of paying and spending the day there. Suddenly out of now where that bum aggressively approaches us, shrugging his shoulders with his hands in the air. So embarrassing. He could have easily explained that the chairs were reserved without shaming us like that. I mean, he saw us there for 5 mins trying to figure out the situation. We let ourselves out before he could finish his rant. We posted up at the public area literally beside this place and at any point there was more than 50% vacancy at Da Gioia. Their loss. We had a great day and saved a couple...
