Once you go in you’ll see a staircase going down and into a small crypt that’s part formed because of the lava caves and is now a tribute area. When it’s hot outside this place is a shelter, but the steps are steep and narrow so may be hard for some. Absolutely worth visiting tho and seeing this wonder

La chiesa di San Gaetano alle Grotte eretta sui resti di un antico tempio del 262 d.C. dal vescovo S. Everio col titolo di S. Maria di Betlemme . Si affaccia sulla piazza Carlo Alberto, storica sede della Fera ô luni. Distrutta da diverse colate laviche , dal terremoto del 1693 e dai bombardamenti del secondo conflitto mondiale e stata riaperta al culto negli anni ottanta. Secondo una vecchia tradizione qui sono state ospitate le spoglie di Sant'Agata dalla sua morte nell'anno 251 alla sua sepoltura nella Vetere nell'anno 264 e sempre secondo la tradizione la martire siracusana Santa Lucia qui cadde svenuta e in visione la martire Sant'Agata la incito' ad aver salda la fede in Cristo. Oggi la Cripta è aperta in determinate occasioni e il sabato giorno in cui è celebrata...
