Did not let me down . Exceeded my every expectations of my first Opera in Catina Italy. 🇮🇹A wonderful experience❤️. Cast was wonderfully delightful They sang like beautiful birds. The acting was done brilliantly. Very funny actually. The theater is known to be one of the best acoustic theater in Europe. You could hear it clear with out any microphones singing and Orchestra.At one point if you are fortunate to get ground seats the cast runs through and sings and interacts in the isles . Very fun!There was an electronic board in English and Italian words of the singing during the show to follow along.😇you can get tickets that day at noon for the 5 :30 pm show. The tickets ran 48. Euro a piece for ground floor. So not to pricey. I recommend it highly. People were very nice who work there. Beautiful experience. Bravo 👏...

CENNI STORICI: Inaugurato la sera del 31 Maggio 1890 con la Norma di Bellini, vanta una storia molto travagliata. Nel 1821, il Decurionato di Catania approvò il progetto dell'architetto Zahra Buda e diede inizio ai lavori, che furono poco dopo interrotti e i fondi stornati e destinati altrove. Dopo 50 anni, si bandirono concorsi pubblici, ma nessuno vi aderì. Finalmente i lavori vennero proseguiti da un'impresa privata, la Coco e Marchese e proseguiti dall'ing. Andrea Scala nel 1874. Furono nuovamente interrotti nel 1878. Dopo 2 anni, il Comune riscattò per 250.000 lire i lavori già eseguiti, per affidare il progetto definitivo all'arch. Carlo Sada, che portò a termine la realizzazione. Destinato in prevalenza a Lirica, Concerti e Danza, ha ospitato raramente compagnie di Prosa. Nel 1940 vi si rappresentarono spettacoli di musica leggera, nel 1955 vi danzò Josephine Baker, prima di ritirarsi dalle scene. Fu presente anche il jazz e sempre ad alto livello. Il teatro si compone di 113 palchi su 4 file, 8 barcacce di proscenio, un palco centrale per il Capo di Stato, 2.000 posti totali, apertura del boccascena 14 metri, profondità del palcoscenico 21 metri. Le decorazioni della facciata del teatro, sono opera dello scultore Giulio Moschetti. Illuminato a gas, passò all'illuminazione elettrica nel 1929. La volta fu affrescata con l'apoteosi di Bellini da Ernesto Bellandi, il sipario fu dipinto da Giuseppe Sciuti e raffigura la 'Vittoria dei Catanesi sui Libici'. Le decorazioni a stucco sono di Andrea Stella. Apprezzabili le decorazioni del ridotto, opera del pittore Natale Attanasio. Nel 1951, Salvo Giordano scolpì la statua di Bellini, collocata nel foyer. Nel dopoguerra, il teatro ebbe dei significativi rammodernamenti. Beniamino Gigli ebbe a dire nelle sue memorie che il Bellini ha la più bella sala di teatro al mondo; per parere unanime, la sua acustica è la migliore fra quella dei teatri d'opera europei.
