A beautiful place well worth visiting! It fits in the Lecce Baroque style. The building houses the Lecce public library, and the Sala Pellgrino is a beautiful reading room with walls containing leather bound Italian classics, while students work at the reading tables. The courtyard is a cheerful place with colorful modern chairs, a great place to sit and read for a while when you want to escape from the bustle in the nearby streets. There was also two interesting exhibits: one of old printing presses, typewriters and early photocopiers, and one of photographs of the Salento region in the 1950s-1970s. The staff was super nice! I had to come back the next day because I had left my wallet behind (it was turned in, with all the documentation and cash, by an honest library patron) and it seems the entire staff was waiting for me and shared my sense of relief!
