This little museum is an absolute gem! I am obsessed with patterns and my mom used to love to make tiles so I’ve always loved looking at tile-work and I knew I wanted to visit this place while I was in Palermo. Booking ahead for a tour is super easy by phone or e-mail, and I got a private tour for €9 with an extremely knowledgeable guide. All of the tiles are just beautiful, every single room is a feast for the eyes, and the way that the collection has been organized makes it very easy to see differences in style by time-period, manufacturer, etc., which made the tour even more interesting. I also liked hearing about the house itself since they are in the process of renovating and trying to preserve as many of the original frescoes, etc., as possible.

A little hard to find, but look for the doorbells on the right-hand side of the frame and the one marked “Stanze al Genio” is the one you want. It doesn’t say anything about the museum on the door but if you googled the museum that name will be familiar.

Highly recommended! I’ve added some pics of my...

I am so glad that I made time to visit the tile museum while staying in Palermo. It was unique and enchanting. The guide gave the visitors an overview of the history and content of the collection and answered questions. Following, you can stay as long as you like to enjoy the beauty of the collection. The apartment is located in central Palermo and I found it easily using Google Maps. Being a private apartment in a residential setting, the sights and sounds of the Sicilian summer afternoon wafted in while I enjoyed drifting from room to room, examining the tile collection, the frescoes, and the owner’s other collections, all beautifully curated and displayed. The owner’s four cats lazed around the home and enjoyed the attention of the visitors. I spent about an hour. I came as a walk-in, but it probably would have been better to buy a ticket ahead of time so the guide can expect you at a certain time. Price of the ticket was very reasonable. I highly recommend this museum to any lovers of design, ceramics, and the decorative...

A must see experience, completely different from other museums. This collection of tiles is a private collection, the owner kindly opens up his home so that you can view the tiles - and they are incredible.

The museum has limited hours (because it’s his personal residence) and can be a little difficult to find, but that just makes the experience even better when you do find it. If you find the door near the location pin, look for the marked doorbell and ring it, then the guide will answer and let you upstairs.

The other aspect that makes it an incredible experience, is that the entry includes a quick guided tour around the rooms to explain the collections, then you are free to explore in your own time. (The guide spoke great English for those who haven’t brushed up on their Italian recently). We were lucky enough to meet the owner briefly as well during our visit, and he was incredibly nice and friendly.

I recently visited the Museo delle Maioliche Stanze al Genio in Palermo, and it was an unforgettable experience. The museum, located on the main floor of the beautiful Palazzo Torre Pirajno, houses a stunning collection of over 5,000 majolica tiles dating from the 15th to the 19th century. The unique aspect of this museum is that it is also a 'House Museum,' meaning the collection is arranged in a space actually inhabited by the owners, giving the visit a very personal and intimate feel. The only way to see the collection is through a guided tour, which must be booked in advance. The guide provided detailed insights about the history and artistry of the tiles, making the experience both educational and enjoyable. I highly recommend this museum to anyone with an interest in art, history, or traditional craftsmanship.
