The first visit was not so successful. Ok - it was a desaster.
The Asian soup: Broth without flavor. The chicken was deep-fried. The ramen noodles were very, very heavy. The egg was great! The vegetables were also delicious.
I did not eat it (just the egg and the little vegetable).
I said "it's not asian, not delicious". I gave it back. But I had to pay it.
I've been to China, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Korea: Asian food comes with lots of flavors, including spiciness - and is very light.
I didn't have any of that today.
It was nice that the French people at the next table also insisted on chilled red wine. Here too, the Sicilian restaurateurs still have a lot to learn. "Room temperature" for red wines dates back to the Middle Ages, when wines were stored in cold cellars.
After many, many months in Palermo... I now consider the people here to be culinary philistines ;-).
This city is as international in terms of visitors as London, Berlin or New York. The cuisine is often provincial. Pizza, pasta, paneer, fried food ... and in Asian restaurants you actually hope to escape the carbohydrates here...
★★★
Addendum: When I explained why I only ate egg and vegetables, as the rest was a culinary imposition and had nothing to do with original Asian food...
...the waiter's friendliness was also gone.
Too bad.
And no: I am not a tourist. And I do not want to...
Read moreWe came here for the ramen because we are tired of Sicilian food and wanted some variety. I am a Ramen lover. I will eat Ramen whenever I get the chance. I tried their Tonkatsu Ramen. Well, this is not the Tonkatsu I usually get with the thick broth that actually gives me a heartburn after. It is light and just right to my liking. One thing is the noodle can be a bit more al dente. But for a Ramen made by Sicilians, it was very impressive! My husband wanted the vegan Ramen, but they don't have that anymore. (Guess it wasn't popular in a country where meat was the essential food) So he ordered nouveau Scilian dish with purée Cauliflower, squash and 2 buffala balls in it. It was very creative and interesting. BUT! The best thing is their bread which is to die for! It tastes like a chewy sourdough. Best bread I had in Sicily! Too bad they made the bread themselves and I can't buy it elsewhere! This is truly a great find. You can tell they create the food not just making it. You have to view it as if you are eating their version of a traditional food. What a refreshing break from traditional...
Read moreWaited 15 minutes to get a menu and then 27 minutes more to get water. Food arrived 16 minutes later (seems like a lot of waiting for two bowls of miso ramen.) Waitress and waiter sat at kitchen counter waiting for dishes to be prepared instead of taking orders or giving drinks. A few empty tables so not overly busy. Maybe just a bad night would consider trying again.
Follow up: Sorry was a typo not 16 minutes, 26 minutes. And thank you for the concern about my partner, we were just very hungry waiting such a long time. I will say the cheese cakes were...
