PUGLIA MINI GUIDE! The sun-kissed region of Puglia sits in southern Italy, and it’s my absolute favorite. The flurry of charming towns, fairytale trulli, quaint fishing villages and stunning coastlines are an absolute dream to explore, and I’m sharing all of my recommendations below. Are you traveling to Italy this summer? BEST COASTAL SPOTS Cala dell’Acquaviva, Cave of Poerty, Lama Monachile, Porto Miggiano, Torre Sant’ Andrea FAIRYTALE TOWNS Alberobello, Cisternino, Lecce, Locorotondo, Monopoli, Polignano a Mare, Ostuni, DAYTRIPS Matera UNIQUE DINING EXPERIENCE Grotta Palazzese (Polignano a Mare) AIRBNB’S & HOTELS Borgo Canonica (Cisternino), Dimora Sighe (Alessano), Hermanas Relais (Alberobello), La Sommita (Ostuni), Masseria Muntibianchi Agri Resort (Otranto), Masseria Salinola (Ostuni), Trulo Suite Martodda (Locorotondo) PLACES TO EAT Condominio 60 (Polignano a Mare), Jarubad (Alberobello), Mezzofanti (Cisternino), Pizza & Co (Lecce), Scinua (Putignano) HOT TIPS -Rent a car! This region is spread out, and you’ll need a car to move between the little towns and beaches. And driving in this part of Italy is relatively low stress. -Stay a week. It’s hard to dedicate a solid week to one region of Italy when there are so many places to see, but seven days in Puglia is worth it if you want to enjoy the region at a relaxed pace. #puglia #italytravel #italytrip

one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy that needs to be on your bucket list 📍 Lama Monachile, Polignano a Mare in Italy’s eastern region of Puglia This region is known for rugged seaside towns with white-washed buildings, beautiful grottos and crystal clear beaches! such a great vacation alternative to Italy’s western coast if you’re looking for something a little less touristy than the Amalfi Coast ✨ #puglia #italytravel #polignanoamare #italy #bestbeaches #europeansummer #europetravel #femaletravel

Lama Monachile Beach, located in the charming town of Polignano a Mare in Italy, is an absolute gem and a must-visit destination. This stunning beach is set between towering cliffs, creating a dramatic and picturesque setting that’s perfect for a memorable beach day. The clear turquoise water here is breathtaking, inviting swimmers to dive in and enjoy its refreshing embrace. The beach’s unique pebble shoreline adds to its charm, making it distinct from the usual sandy spots. For those who enjoy exploring, the nearby cliffs offer scenic views and great spots for capturing unforgettable photos. The combination of the ancient Roman bridge above and the rustic, stone pathways around the area provides a glimpse into the town’s rich history, enhancing the experience of visiting Lama Monachile. Though the beach can get quite busy, especially in peak season, the atmosphere is lively and full of energy, with friendly locals and visitors alike. The beach is conveniently located near local cafes and eateries, so grabbing a gelato or a delicious snack is easy. Lama Monachile Beach is a beautiful, iconic spot where you can soak in the beauty of Italy’s Adriatic coast and enjoy a day of relaxation and exploration.

When people talk about breathtaking beaches in Puglia, Lama Monachile in Polignano a Mare comes to mind. Now having swum in three beaches in Monopoli, one in Gallipoli, and Lama Monachile, I’d say the Monopoli beaches, particularly La Scaletta, are superior. Unlike the Monopoli beaches that are fine sand, this is a pebble beach. It is way more crowded and the water quality is not as good as the Monopoli ones. (That is not to say it is bad) What makes Lama Monachile special is the cave tunnel that connects the beach to an open cave that lets you directly drop into the water. It offers stunning views of the mare. Most people come to the cave to take selfies and Instagram photos, rather than swimming. So in this age of social media, perhaps it is not surprising Lama Monachile enjoys far more fame than other excellent and even better beaches in the region.

I give it a 4 because the views are incredible and hey it’s a cool Italian beach!! It’s a rocky beach. You are much better off wearing flip flops or shoes. Better yet if you have shoes you can wear in the water you won’t regret it. Everyone will envy you. Someone could make a killing selling shoes at this beach but they just sell hats, sunglasses and random jewelry that you see all over at every other stall. You can go off to the left through a cave like area and to a place where you can swim but I didn’t let my 9 year old because it was really wavy and it looked like it would be hard to get out of the water. Someone from the cliff above our head jumped in and startled me. It’s nice to look at this place and take photos from the bridge behind and from the upper right viewing area. Btw that whole area up there is a must see. Great shops and cafes!!!
