But once you do, once that first spoonful melts on your tongue... it clicks. Suddenly, all the exaggeration makes perfect sense. You don’t just taste gelato then - you experience a shift in consciousness. A tiny enlightenment served in a cup or a cone.
Someone, somewhere, has to be the best. Turns out, it’s this place. Sure, now and then, someone else might come close - maybe even match it for a fleeting moment - but Zampolli remains a Trieste legend, a regional treasure, and a small Italian wonder you simply cannot miss. Well, if you didn't know... just go and taste for yourselves. Just be careful when you park in front of the shop, don't be an a** blocking the traffic behind. And it's the same for the pavement. Amici, I know that the gelato in your hands is out of this world, but unfortunately you are still on the ground, standing in the middle of a busy pavement blocking the way for everyone else. We chose to visit this gelateria as it was open (Mondays seem to be days off for most shops or restaurants) and also due to the promising reviews...we were not disappointed! Being lactose intolerant, I appreciate when I can enjoy some either vegan options or generally ice cream which doesn't contain milk. Here they had a nice selection I could choose from - besides the usual sorbets. I had the pistachio and pesca (peach) and I loved both. Indulgent, refreshing, tasting like the real thing. Just what you expect and want to get from proper gelato.
