There are no words, no review, no story that can truly explain - or convince - anyone who hasn’t personally experienced the gelato from this place.

You’ll hear it often: "It’s the best ice cream in the world". And if you haven’t tasted it yet, it’ll sound like the usual overhyped nonsense. But once you do, once that first spoonful melts on your tongue... it clicks. Suddenly, all the exaggeration makes perfect sense. You don’t just taste gelato then - you experience a shift in consciousness. A tiny enlightenment served in a cup or a cone.

Someone, somewhere, has to be the best. Turns out, it’s this place. Sure, now and then, someone else might come close - maybe even match it for a fleeting moment - but Zampolli remains a Trieste legend, a regional treasure, and a small Italian wonder you simply cannot miss. Don’t overthink it. Just go....

We were all shocked by the price changes, but they are at least keeping up with the portions. Just be careful when you want to try more than two flavours, because the scoops are gigantic. It's not the worst thing, of course, because we love it. I'm just too lactose intolerant to enjoy more of it, even if I wanted to. Anyway, it's Zampolli, everybody knows that they're good, right? Well, if you didn't know... just go and taste for yourselves. Just be careful when you park in front of the shop, don't be an a** blocking the traffic behind. And it's the same for the pavement. Amici, I know that the gelato in your hands is out of this world, but unfortunately you are still on the ground, standing in the middle of a busy pavement blocking the way for everyone else. Just be mindful of your surroundings while enjoying your delish...

A welcome refreshment during our sunny stay in Trieste! We chose to visit this gelateria as it was open (Mondays seem to be days off for most shops or restaurants) and also due to the promising reviews...we were not disappointed! Being lactose intolerant, I appreciate when I can enjoy some either vegan options or generally ice cream which doesn't contain milk. Here they had a nice selection I could choose from - besides the usual sorbets. I had the pistachio and pesca (peach) and I loved both. Indulgent, refreshing, tasting like the real thing. Just what you expect and want to get from proper gelato.

Possible to pay by card and super sweet helpful staff which spoke good English so I could ask for my...

The gelato itself is tasty but since Zampolli is quite a famous place, it was crowded. In my opinion when people recommend this, they overexagerrate, I am sure there's a lot of other gelaterias that are not as expensive. As you can see I ordered two scoops in a cone (you can either get a cone or a cup but on warm sunny days in Tierste I'd recommend you take the cup, trust me) and the flavors were Tiramisu (bottom) and Limoncello (top). To be honest I expected more from the tiramisu - there are chunks of sponge cake which are uncomfortably wet and the taste is really just vanilla flavour. For the Limoncello I would advise people who enjoy sour taste to try it out. Definitely worth it.
