This is a medium-sized restaurant located on a pedestrian street in the center of the city and easily reachable by public transportation (parking can be a nightmare in that area), which specializes in typical local dishes.
They have a few outdoor tables but it was cold that night, so we sat inside: it has a rustic décor, like a typical osteria, and a cozy ambience.
The staff was great in accommodating us (we were a group of about a dozen people) and made suggestions for the food that we meant to share. The food is very good, if you like Trieste’s typical cuisine, which has both Austrian and Slavic origins. Just don’t get fooled by the name: “sbecolez” means “snack” in the dialect of Trieste, but the portions of food that you’ll get are not small at all!
Their selection of wine is also good (many of them come from the region). Of course, they also offer “digestive” drinks (as grappa).
Their desserts are all homemade, but we were so full after dinner that unfortunately we didn’t have the chance to try them.
The service was very fast, although the restaurant was almost full.

Read moreWe came here late at night without looking at any Google reviews. The staff was extremely friendly and created a small table for us, even though the tables outside were all occupied. But then... My wife and I each chose a dish and a side as well as a salad. The dishes were served relatively quickly, but without sides or salad, as the waitress forgot them. After a few attempts to make eye contact, we left it. From our point of view, that wasn't a big problem. But the dish I ordered should include beef with vegetables. It was a single piece of potato and otherwise only a bit of meat with a lot of broth. I didn't like it at all and the dish was unfortunately not worth the price. My wife got a pasta dish, which arrived warmed up. From my point of view it wasn't good either, but she said everything was okay. We only tolerated it, as the staff really tried hard to give us something to eat. But again I wouldn't give a chance at all. I'm really sorry to give a negative review, but it's just...
Read moreMy husband and I stumbled into this bustling restaurant on our first night in Trieste. The food was unique and utterly delicious. Our seasonal antipasti (herb omlette) was beautifully plated and like nothing we've tried before. The service was warm and fairly quick considering how busy it was. We tried two pasta dishes, namely taglitelli with smoked goose breast and parpadelle with venison ragu. Both were interesting for our palate and well balanced. The house red wine was tasty and hit the spot. We also had a side of roasted vegetables which were so flavourful. You can tell the chefs and servers put a lot of care into what they do and we would highly recommend to anyone who finds themselves in Trieste. Cherry on top included the Panna cotta and the adorable old dog who made an appearance. Our overall impression was a high energy and authentic little dinner spot with highly...
