Parco Archeologico Enrico Fiumi — Attraction in Volterra

Distinguiamo sull'acropoli di Volterra il parco dall'area archeologica. La parte archeologica, a pagamento (5€ intero 3€ ridotto) è veramente mal tenuta! Di cose da raccontare ce ne sarebbero. Dei 4 pannelli descrittivi ve ne sono 2 assolutamente illeggibili, l'addetta alla biglietteria, poverina, in un casotta di legno (nuova) usa come tavolo un banco di scuola anni 80 (quelli verdi che avevo anche io alle elementari). La Cisterna potrebbe avere una scala un po' migliore e un sistema x segnalare chi sale e chi scende (è molto stretta e lunga, non ci si passa in due). Lodevoli le addette che si impegnano e fan quel che possono. I cestini andrebbero svuotati più spesso; evidentemente lo fanno solo a chiusura. Il Comune con un migliaio di euro potrebbe almeno cambiare i pannelli informativi, mettere qualche altro cestino e rendere più dignitoso il lavoro delle addette all'ingresso. L'area verde invece (gratuita) può anche essere gradevole, ci sono anche 2 bar a disposizione, una fontana e qualche gioco per bambini (senza esagerare). Ps. Una certa "stitichezza" nei pannelli informativi l'ho verificata anche al museo etrusco, non vorrei fosse fatto apposta x vendere l'audioguida. Spero di no. Se si visitano 2 luoghi a Volterra conviene senz'altro acquistare la card turistica a 24€...

Nice quiet public park, hidden away at the top of the town. A little overgrown but clean enough and a welcome break from the bustle of the main tourist parts of the town. Opportunity to visit the ruins for a small fee. Trees in the area hide the best views of the countryside below but plenty of shady places to sit and relax after the walk up there. Beware that the main ascent from the town is quiet steep...

Het park zelf is heerlijk rustig. De ingang naar het archeologische deel valt niet direct op; wij liepen er de eerste keer aan voorbij. Voor geschiedenis-liefhebbers blijft het wel een bijzondere plek. De resten zijn bijna 3000 jaar oud. Met de informatiebordjes krijg je een goed beeld van hoe daar ooit prachtige tempels hebben gestaan.

Een ander onderdeel van dit archeologische park is de Romeinse ‘watertank’ waar je met een trappetje in kunt zakken. Het blijft heel bijzonder om te zien hoe uitgebreid de waterhuishouding in Romeinse steden eeuwen geleden al was.

Een aantal Nederlandse bezoekers klaagden over het toegangsticket. Ik vind het goed dat ze er geld voor vragen. Met het geld van het ticket kunnen archeologische plekken zoals deze worden gerestaureerd, onderhouden en worden bewaard voor de volgende generatie zodat ook zij geschiedenis uit de verre oudheid in het echt...
