La Sosta del Priore — Restaurant in Volterra

Horrible experience led to my husband contracting Salmonella poisoning and being in bed for a week of our holiday. Do not trust this food!!!!! We arrived and upon ordering asked if the waitress spoke English. She said ''yes'', upon which I asked her for a sandwich with ''Ham'', and which of the options in Italian meant ham. She pointed to 2-3 options and I went with one for my husband. When it came out, it was beef tartare (ie, raw beef). My husband thought I had ordered this for him on purpose and ate it (I did not see his sandwich). This sandwich led to the worst Salmonella poisoning ever. It was not even nice beef tartare and my own sandwich was also not great (''bacon'' which was more of a low quality, fatty prosciutto. If the waiters do not know English, please do not say you do!!!! I could have pointed to the options I wanted. I only spoke to you because you said you knew English. BAD SERVICE.

The only positive was that the bread was nice?? But they probably bring that in from elsewhere. AVOID if you want to enjoy your holiday.

Also, after seeing the company's response to other complaints, I expect them to respond aggressively and unkindly- so if you see that, know that my comments triggered them because...

UPDATE: We have visited this great food locale on several visits and have had an EXCELLENT, LOW COST, and a tasty TUSCAN sandwich meal each time. The friendly service, the price, and the tasty tasty food - make this a must visit. We've had at least a half dozen visits to Volterra and are really happy to have discovered this street food locale - WOW! Great portions, SUPER GOOD FOOD (tasty), with many superb combinations. My wife and I were taken with the friendly reception, the lovely surroundings, and the sweet treat that was offered after the meal. We loved it so much we had to go back and have more. DO NOT DISCOUNT THIS PLACE! Good prices, GREAT FOOD, and WONDERFUL service by an engaging staff. Ylenia is to be considered a friend - and her establishment is REALLY WONDERFUL. WOW! What a DELICIOUS SANDWICH!!!!! This place is a true gem and the family that runs it are kind and happy. They offer so many sandwich combinations it was difficult to choose! They have vegetables like grilled eggplant, zucchini, sauted red & yellow peppers, carmelized onions, and marinated local tomatoes- just to name a few- and a large selection of local Tuscan meats, cheeses and breads. The roll I chose super authentic and crusty and the filling was such a generous portion that I could have been satisfied without the bread! They also have a wonderful selection of beer and wine including delicious quality craft beers that are brewed right here in Volterra! Id actually eat here again and I don’t even like sandwiches!
