Got dropped off in the bus parking. I thought we only had a little bit to go but as we walked down the street and through the plaza and then down a skinny street that was steep - we came at last to the hotel. Came in a very large front door and were very pleased. Comfortable. Classy. Super friendly staff. After Rome? This place was a dream. Hot water. Comfortable bed and room. Breakfast? Not so good but I didn't come for the breakfast. Love this place!

My wife and I always stay at this charming and well-located hotel for one night when we are in Tuscany. La Locanda is the perfect place to stay if you want to explore Volterra at your leisure and go out for dinner in the evening. For example, it is well worth reserving a table at Ristaurante Etruria through the hotel. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. The continental and Italian breakfasts also leave nothing to be desired.

Il TOP a Volterra! Consigliatissimo!

Cute little hotel on the "main drag" but just far enough out that the evenings were quiet. The hotel has a small elevator that can accommodate 3 people, 3 suitcases, and 3 small personal-sized bags. More than that, and it won't move :-) The hotel is, like almost all hotels in Italy, in an older building, and it took some creative remodeling to engineer all the rooms. Our room was just off the stairwell -- and one could even say it was "in" the stairwell, since you had to exit to the stairwell to access the door to our room. Once in the room, the beds were definitely comfy, there were adequate electrical outlets, and plenty of spots to place our suitcases. Since we were traveling with a Rick Steves tour group, we were only there 2 nights, so... no time to unpack and then it was important that we could access our suitcases. Volterra is a lovely little town and the Hotel La Locanda is perfectly situated for setting out to explore. I would definitely stay here again if we were to return to Volterra. With a car, it would be a great location to set out to explore the surrounding...

Delightful old-style hotel. Nice spacious room, very spacious bathroom (by Italian standards), very comfortable bed and linens. WiFi worked well. Very nice continental breakfast (Anglo-Saxons please note - cooked breakfast items are extra!). Nice location, apart from the parking which, as in most Tuscan hilltop towns, is a complete bugger. We parked in the free parking where the camper vans park, and I went back with a driver whom the hotel arranged, to pick up the luggage. The cost was 25 Euros, which is what a paid parking lot would have cost, had I been able to find a space. My suggestion - follow the hotel's directions and advice. I would definitely...
