We stumbled upon this cafe by chance, as it was one of the few places open during the off-season, and we’re so glad we did! Originally we were planning to visit a wine bar that was closed, we found this “hidden gem.” It’s not hidden in the literal sense, but surprisingly, it didn’t show up on any travel blogs or guides we read before visiting the city. Which we always find to be the best places. Pietro made the experience unforgettable with his warmth, attentiveness, and clear passion for cocktail making. I decided on an espresso martini instead of a glass of wine, and I’m so glad I did! Normally, I’m cautious about ordering cocktails at restaurants, but if you know espresso martinis you know Pietro prepared this one with the perfect foam and 3 beans and a wonderful balance of ingredients. My husband was craving a Negroni, and Pietro offered him a “local spin” with less sugar—absolutely fantastic! The presentation was impeccable, down to the charming coaster, which added a special touch. We also enjoyed two paninis for lunch, and every ingredient was fresh, local, and absolutely delicious. This place is a true gem, and we wouldn’t hesitate to visit again. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area.

The best cocktail bar I've ever been to. Not only is the staff extremely kind, they are absolute masters of their craft. The main bartender is truly phenomenal. He will readily prepare you a custom drink for your preferred flavour profile using local ingredients upon request. Their menu drinks are also a lot of fun, and extremely well made. It takes an incredible amount of skill and craftsmanship to be able to assemble a good drinks menu, let alone prepare custom cocktails on the fly. I get the impression this guy could do it in his sleep. This is clearly a passion project for this team.

Antica Velathri Café in Volterra is simply exceptional! They serve some of the best mixology drinks I've had anywhere in Italy, from cocktails to mocktails, all crafted to perfection. Whether it's their coffee, sandwiches, or their creative drinks, everything is made with excellence and care. The service is outstanding – friendly, attentive, and welcoming. I drove 30 minutes to Volterra every day just to experience their amazing food and drinks because my wife and friends couldn't get enough. This place is a true gem and absolutely worth the visit! Highly recommend!

I could gush on about my families experience at this restaurant for an hour! We were there in December, and had a wonderful experience, end to end. We were a large-ish group, which was happily accommodated... not a small feat considering the size and layout of the café, and the fact we came in off the street. We were 3 youth, and 4 adults, several of us with food restrictions. Once again, we were readily and happily accommodated. The owner is passionate about his art - just ask him about his personalized gin! I could have listened to him for hours. The prices were fair, the food was tasty with a great selection, and the service was excellent. The place was really cute, immaculately clean. So glad we stopped in!...
