The Enchantment of Atami: A Plum Blossom Extravaganza
Dear Fellow Blossom Explorers,
Embark with me on a picturesque journey to Atami’s, festival where I discovered where history whispers and nature sings in the form of plum blossoms. Let’s dive into this tapestry woven from petals, culture, and the kindest of souls.
🌸 In Full Bloom 🌸
Imagine a world awash with the soft whites and vivacious pinks of plum blossoms, each petal a soft note in nature’s springtime melody. At Atami festival, these blossoms weren’t just flowers; they were the maestros of a fragrant orchestra.
🌊 The Cascading Symphony 🌊
A waterfall, the castle’s serene soundtrack, added a rhythmic cascade that was music to my ears and balm for my soul. Through my lens, every droplet seemed to dance, celebrating life’s pure and undisturbed moments.
🖼️ A Cultural Encounter 🖼️
Amidst the celebrations, the Sawada Seiko Memorial Museum stood proud, a treasure chest of history. Here, I learned that art isn’t just seen; it’s felt, a sentiment that Seiko Sawada’s sculptures captured so well. my guides grandfather also happened to be the artist best friend.
🗺️ Navigating the Celebration 🗺️
Festival signs were my trusty guides, pointing me to secret gardens and halls of memory. But here’s a secret for you: follow the scent of the blossoms; it leads to wonders untold.

Read moreWhat a beautiful park. It's not lit up, so you want to go there during daylight hours. The museum/memorial is located within the garden and has strict opening times. While the garden is free, the memorial requires a small entry fee.
We strolled around the garden in April. Water was gushing down the streams and over small falls. There are tributes to other cultures, including Korean. At this time of year, the plants and trees are blossoming. There are a number of places to sit and enjoy the ambience. A very relaxing energy.
The walkways are wheel chair friendly. A few people were taking their dog for a walk. I didn't see any big dogs, though. You can get get drinks at vending machines at the entrance. Otherwise, there is a 7/11 across the road. The walk from Kinomiya train station is moderate...
Read moreOn February 23, 2025, at 15:40, I witnessed animal exploitation. A woman, surrounded by a crowd, had a monkey chained and was tormenting it. This is nothing to be proud of - it’s not cool or acceptable in any way. In most civilized countries, using animals in circus performances is strictly banned. Monkeys are wild animals and should not be exploited. Please show kindness to nature and animals in the future.
The park itself was good, but this show completely ruined my experience. If I had known that my 300-yen entrance fee was also supporting animal cruelty, I would have never gone. If you love animals, don’t visit this place. There is already a beautiful cherry blossom alley in this city that you will definitely enjoy. I’m giving 1/5 only because 0/5 is...
