Kamado Jigoku, located in Beppu, Japan, is a remarkable natural wonder that offers a unique and unforgettable experience. My visit to this "Hell Hot Spring" was truly awe-inspiring and unlike anything I had ever seen before.
The vibrant, otherworldly colors of Kamado Jigoku's hot springs are a sight to behold. The deep reds, bright blues, and striking whites of the mineral-rich waters create a surreal and captivating landscape. The natural steam rising from these springs adds to the mystique, making it feel like you've stepped into a different realm.
Exploring Kamado Jigoku is a fascinating journey. The park provides well-maintained walkways and platforms that allow visitors to get up close to the various hot springs. Each one has its unique characteristics and temperature, ranging from scalding hot to comfortably warm. The informative signage in both Japanese and English offers insights into the geological and historical significance of the area.
In addition to the natural beauty, Kamado Jigoku also offers the opportunity to try local cuisine cooked using the natural geothermal heat. Beppu specialty dishes like "Jigoku-steamed pudding" and "Oniishi beef" are cooked using the steam from the hot springs, creating a truly unique dining experience.
The souvenir shops in the vicinity provide a chance to take home some beautiful, locally crafted goods, including ceramics and traditional Japanese sweets.
Visiting Kamado Jigoku is not only a visual treat but also an educational and cultural experience. It's a place where you can marvel at the Earth's natural wonders, learn about its geological processes, and appreciate the rich cultural traditions that have developed around these hot springs. I highly recommend a visit to Kamado Jigoku to anyone traveling to Beppu, Japan—it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you'll...

Overall, it is too crowded for my liking but its a cool...
Read moreA small park with a whitish hot spring. The coolest part of this park is the large area that’s set aside for people to soak their feet in. I believe they provide towels here but unfortunately it was too packed when I came so I skipped it (but I would have wanted to since it’s really nice to soak in a hot spring during winter).
One highlight is that there’s an area where people paint cats on stone. It’s a small delight!
This park is one of the 7 in the Jigoku group. Not all parks are part of this group. You can buy a group ticket to see all the parks or you can buy entrance to each park...
