Jigoku Onsen Museum — Attraction in Beppu

This was one of the highlights of our trip when visiting the hot springs. We got a discount due to visiting one of the hot springs which makes it more affordable and worth the money. This museum is something I’ve not experienced before, very modern and interactive- more a fun activity. You do learn a lot how the hot springs are formed- very informative. It was cute and fun stamping the postcard with the coloured stamps. I loved the video about how the hot springs started to become part of people’s lives in the past and how they use it for a variety of different means. An interactive museum that provides a unique insight into onsen from both a geological and geographical perspective. I was fascinated to learn that onsen water takes 50 years to travel through the earth before reaching the surface! The exhibits are engaging, and the information is presented in a clear and accessible way. We visited Umijigoku night event and got a discount to visit the Jigoku Onsen Museum. Our family ranged from 4 to 76 years old but we all got surprised and enjoyed the museum so much. The information was simple and well delivered, suitable for tourists.
