If Peloton & the Shinto gods had a baby, it would look like this place. A bold red gateway stares you down like a bouncer at the hottest club in Kamakura, except instead of a velvet rope, you get 100+ stone steps daring you to prove you didn’t skip leg day.
We arrived early, and thank God (or Amaterasu) we did...light tourist traffic meant no slow-moving stair zombies. Pro tip: this place turns into Times Square by noon, only with more humidity & less air conditioning.
The shrine entrance is gorgeous: vermilion torii, crisp white gate, greenery wrapping everything like nature’s own PR department. But make no mistake...this is a workout. Bring fluids. Bring electrolytes. Bring the kind of self-loathing that gets you through a SoulCycle class. Because once the sun hits, these stairs go from “spiritual ascent” to “cardio inferno.”
At the top, you get a killer view of Enoshima and the coastline, plus the smug satisfaction of having conquered the climb. Worth it? Absolutely. Just don’t wear flip-flops unless you’re training to be a cautionary tale.
