Today, I experienced extremely dishonest and unpleasant service at this establishment. I was attended to by the manager, who, I was informed, holds the position of Director at Kinokuniya and also serves as the Chairperson of the Fujisawa City Tourism Association.
Upon entering, I was told that PayPay was not accepted, so I reluctantly paid in cash. However, while dining in the store afterward, I clearly witnessed another customer completing their payment using PayPay. When I questioned this discrepancy, the manager, without any sign of embarrassment, once again insisted that PayPay was not accepted. Worse still, he dismissed my concern with the remark, “It’s not a big deal,” displaying an astonishing lack of responsibility and sincerity.
Providing false information and dismissing customer concerns reflect a disregard not only for basic customer service but also for fundamental social responsibility and ethical standards. What is even more troubling is that the manager’s attitude appears to have influenced the staff as well—the entire store exhibits a consistent atmosphere of discourtesy and indifference. Furthermore, as a foreigner, I could not help but feel that I was subjected to discriminatory looks and behavior, which was deeply upsetting and regrettable.
That a person in a public leadership role would conduct themselves in this manner is profoundly disappointing. I believe this issue has serious implications for the reputation of Fujisawa City as a tourist destination. This restaurant clearly discriminates against foreign customers, which was extremely disappointing. Perhaps because it is located in a popular tourist area, the staff seem to act arrogantly, even treating Japanese customers with cold attitudes or outright ignoring them.
In particular, the female staff member was especially unpleasant and rude throughout our visit, making the entire experience uncomfortable. With such poor service, it was impossible to enjoy the meal.
As for the food, it was very average and not memorable at all. The terrible service made it even less enjoyable.
