Mitsui Garden Hotel Hiroshima — Attraction in Hiroshima

Yes, I'm aware I booked a standard double room but it still cost over £150/night so I did expect something decent||What we got was the smallest bedroom I have ever stayed in. A single bed would have been a squash but somehow a double bed was in this room plus a desk/dressing table, a fridge, a dehumidifier & a clothes hanging rail of just 4 hangers wide. ||Other points to note as follows:||There was approx 12-15" of room between the side of the bed & the wall, plus the same at the base & the wall. ||No bedside tables or light switches on that side so I had to put my stuff on the windowsill. Only one power point to charge phones & that was by the fridge. ||In the Bathroom it was possible to touch all 4 walls & the ceiling without moving & I'm not a tall person||There is zero space for stuff in the bathroom which meant our Wash bags had to sit on the toilet cistern with the obvious concern of potentially something dropping out..... ||No space for cases - we moved the chair from under the desk & put them in there||The chair then had to go in front of the fridge & had to be moved to access the fridge||There is zero space for putting clothes, apart from the 4 hangers, and so we left our other clothes in our cases||So I went down to reception to ask about changing rooms & I was told I'd have to pay extra to upgrade (which we wouldn't have minded) but in 2 nights time, (we stayed 3 nights). I was then surprised to be given a Pre-printed paper entitled "Policy for room change" - obviously this is a common thing they are asked about! ||As others have stated, it is also quite run down in places & does need money spending on upgrades - particularly in the bathroom.||There's a Hilton very close & during the week, the rates are similar, with rooms at least 50% larger & I really wish with hindsight I'd booked there - we stayed here over a weekend. If anyone is considering this hotel, then my advice is...

The Mitsui garden hotel in the historical city of Hiroshima is an economic yet comfortable and luxurious experience. The hotel is situated 700m from the historical "A-bomb" dome and Hiroshima peace park museum (which is quite the moving experience, but having some lovely young Japanese women tell you your handsome helps calm the nerves).

Apart from being so close to the peace park there are trams running even closer to the hotel. The trams run to pretty much the entire city (be prepared for some long trips however).

As far as the subject of food and shopping this hotel should have your every need satisfied. The main shopping district of Hiroshima is only a few tram stops away from the nearest tram to the hotel.

There is also a breakfast and lunch bar situated in the lobby of the hotel, serving a fairly standard but good quality breakfast menue of pankacakes and toast as thick as Kevin Rudd's eyebrows.

The lunch and dinner options near the hotel are superb. Just one block up from the hotel and on a corner street a ninja worrior type restaurant with an almost manga type cast of staff serve some of the best Japanese style of HSP's I've ever had. The staff are incredibly nice and the place is teeming with character. And just around the corner from the corner there is yet another manga set imposing as one of the best restaurants you've ever eaten in.

Overall Mitsui garden is a good stay (with a view that makes me feel like I'm the weeknd in his music video often) spacious rooms, let down of a bathroom, nice staff and a view and a full stomach that makes me feel that writing this review for $0.60...

When we arrived, we were directed to a computer terminal to do a self check in, even though 3 staff members on the reception desk were not dealing with any customers.Machine issues keys and breakfast vouchers||How did this make me feel? I was not valued, no welcome smile or enquiry about my long trip, just a grey screen to interact with. Seemed to me that customers on their loyalty programme may get personal service, and the rest of us may need to serve ourselves.||Then, we are advised their are no amenities in the room, we are thinking tea and coffee but they also mean body towel, toothbrush, razor, shower cap etc and invite you to collect them from a desk in another area on your way to the room.||Our room was clean except for mould around the bath. The bath in the room was a really nice feature. || Iron , laundry room, and ice were all great features. Tv , we could only find one english channel CNN. Brochures in English were not available during our stay. ||You are also invited to make your own bed and have a mini service, e.g, rubbish taken and towels changed if staying for 2 days or more in search of them striving to meet better eco standards.|| Breakfast was wonderful, and the view across the city was amazing.Restaurant is only open for breakfast. In my view, they're efficiency driven,and in pursuing technology, they have lost their customer focus.
