Would not stay again. Prior to booking this hotel I had read mixed reviews about the hotel but thought that some people were too picky and assumed we would have a better experience. There's no question it's conveniently located to the key sites of Hiroshima, that the light in the breakfast lounge which is also a place you can read in the evenings is lovely but the benefits stop there. |It's quite possible that some rooms are far nicer than others which would explain the varying experiences and reviews on Tripadvisor. Our stay was not good. Of the nine hotels we stayed in our five week journey throughout Japan, this hotel room was hands down the worst experience. This review is not a reflection of the staff as they were all lovely. |Our room, 303, was on the same floor as the breakfast lounge and laundry. That was convenient but that's about it. Upon entering the room, the carpet was so stained I did not want to remove my shoes but following Japanese protocol of course I did. The provided slippers were not the most comfortable. Not only was the carpet stained but it was lifting in places. The walls were very banged up and in dire need of a coat of paint. There is no place to hang your clothes. How much would it cost to insert some hooks into the walls and provide some hangers? Noise transfer from the room above kept us awake. All the other hotels provided an amazing supply of toiletries and skin care products. This hotel had almost none. There was a basket of combs and toothbrushes in the lobby but none of the typical things we had in our other hotel rooms. I took photos of the stained carpet and battered walls but unfortunately am having trouble inserting them and it's not worth the time to return to this bad memory. The bench seating at the end of the room was also stained. There was one tiny window in the room which let in minimal daylight. Jail cells likely have more daylight. This room felt like a run down, abused youth hostel. The two twin beds with the plywood bunks above just didn't cut it. If the carpet was replaced with a polished concrete floor and the walls painted, we would have had a much better experience. Compared to our fabulous stays at Hotel 88 Shinsaibashi in Osaka, The Blossom Hotel in Kyoto, Hotel Sanraku in Kanazawa which were all similar prices, this place was a dud for us. Interestingly the only two hotels that we didn't enjoy were both Share Hotels, the other being in Nara. Both properties need to hire a painter and a...
Read moreThe location is excellent and I would consider it to be a much more fun and vibrant area to stay than the train station area which is typically the other option you'd consider.
KIRO came to us recommended by a friend. The common areas were as we expected...funky and modern.
Our room rate did not include breakfast and the hotel would not accommodate us for breakfast due to that being fully booked up. There are some excellent bakery cafes nearby which we used instead.
The room was a huge disappointment. It bears absolutely no resemblance to the pictures shown on the website for the standard twin room. Those appear light filled with a real window. Ours was dark, dank and depressing with a tiny, opaque excuse for a window (see photo) that could barely open a few centimetres for air. I consider this room to effectively be windowless, I think many would struggle with this. If you're going to sell rooms with such a poor aspect at least be honest about it. As some other reviews mentioned the carpet and walls were grimy and marked.
I tend to book a twin room in Japan for the luxury of a few extra square metres. Here the twin beds were pushed against each other (that is in their room photos) and the twin room did not really offer any benefit.
In summary, we loved Hiroshima and the location of the hotel...we did not enjoy the...
Read moreThe Hiro Hotel is style over substance. It is a lovely hotel in a great location.
A quadruple room is a reasonable size but would be small if four people are staying. We had to ask reception to unlock the futon cupboard for our toddler to sleep. The AC can be temperamental overnight, not cooling the room, making sleeping difficult.
Sometimes, the reception staff are lazy, and give you the wrong information. The inaccurate information could be due to poor English, which is surprising considering it is marketed to an international clientele
During check-in (25th Jun). I asked the staff how long it would take to send a bag to a hotel near Haneda. They said to ship on the 27th to arrive on the 28th. I took the bag on the 27th, and the receptionist said he was too busy due to check out, but there was no one waiting to check out. He sent me to the local convenience store (711). I went, and they said it wouldn’t arrive until the 30th (which is too late). I also went to the local Yamato Shop on the Hondori Shopping Street. The lady confirmed the same. I am very disappointed! I now must pay for extra baggage seats on the Shinkansen and struggle...
