Tamonin Temple （approx、 1.75 kilometers from the hypocenter) The roof of the main building at Tamonin Temple lost most of its roof tiles to the blast wind. Nevertheless in the evening of August 6, 1945, the Prefectural Air Defense Headquarters was moved here from t Prefectural Government Building, which was crushed and burned to the ground. The next day, the Headquarte.s was moved again to the East Police Station, but this temple received relief supplies and distributed rice balls to the crowds of survivors that fled to Hijiyama Hill. The bell tower, its beams broken by t has been preserved...

比治山の麓、登山道入口に位置する風情があるお寺。そびえる卒塔婆の石塔が渋い。虚空蔵菩薩、多聞天（毘沙門天）などが祭られている。虚空蔵とは、宇宙の如く広大無辺の知恵と慈悲がつまっている蔵のことで、この菩薩は、人々の願いを叶えるべく、知恵、記憶力、知識を倉から取り出し与えてくれるそうな。何だか受験生向きの仏さんじゃね。この寺は、もとは毛利氏が吉田に創建した真言宗寺院で、1604年に現在地に引っ越してきたそうな。原爆により被災しながらも、焼け残り、臨時の県庁の役を...
