Nanshu Shrine — Attraction in Kagoshima

西南戦争で散らした若い命の墓碑銘が、そこにはあります。一筋に命をかける厳しさが、今の私にあるのかどうか。選択の時代に立った時に、私や息子が賢明な判断ができるのかどうか。西郷南洲翁遺訓を繰り返し読む中で、学び続けるしか、道はありません。

There is an epitaph of a young life scattered in the Seinan War. I wonder if I have the rigor of putting my life on the line. Whether I or my son can make a wise decision when we stand in a time of choice. There is no other way but to keep learning while repeatedly reading Nanshuo's precepts.

Slightly unusual shrine with a cemetery (most cemeteries are attached to temples) which has the grave of Saigo Takamori, one of the great historical figures of Japan that brought the end of the Shogunate era in Japan.
