The Kagoshima Tsurumaru Castle Ruins, also known as Kagoshima Castle, is a historical site in Kagoshima City that offers a glimpse into Japan’s feudal past. The castle was originally constructed in 1601 by Shimazu Iehisa, a powerful feudal lord of the Shimazu clan, who ruled the Satsuma domain (modern-day Kagoshima).

Key Features:

Stone Walls and Moat: Though much of the original castle was destroyed, visitors can still admire the impressive stone walls and sections of the moat, which were designed to protect against invasions. Reconstructed Gate: The gate has been restored to reflect its original appearance, showcasing traditional Japanese architectural techniques. Satsuma History Museum: Located near the castle ruins, this museum provides insights into the history of the Shimazu clan and the region’s samurai culture. Scenic Gardens: The area surrounding the ruins includes well-maintained gardens and offers views of Sakurajima volcano, making it a peaceful spot to explore or relax.

While the castle itself is largely gone, the site serves as a symbol of Kagoshima’s history and the legacy of the Shimazu clan. It’s a popular destination for history enthusiasts and those looking to learn more about Japan’s Edo-period architecture...

The Tsurumaru Castle Ruins offer a fascinating glimpse into Kagoshima’s feudal history. Although much of the original castle is gone, the site is beautifully maintained, with well-marked pathways, informative plaques, and remnants of the stone walls that hint at its past grandeur.

The surrounding gardens and open spaces make it a peaceful place to stroll, relax, and take in the view of the city and Sakurajima in the distance. History enthusiasts will appreciate the insight into the Satsuma Domain, while casual visitors can enjoy a quiet escape in a central location.

A serene and educational spot that connects the past to the present — a must-visit for anyone exploring...
