Good museum that highlights the history of military aggression, the ensuing fallout and then pursuit of peace.

A good highlight of the dark past that accompanies Japan during the Second World War. However, there seems to be a lack of presentation on the impact felt by occupied countries such as war crimes and the pressure of colonization.

There seems to be room to elaborate on the impact felt by non-combatants (i.e. Unit 731, “comfort women,” POWs working in SEAsia). Additional interviews with past victims would have had a greater impact.

Some pieces only had descriptions in Japanese, making things slightly difficult to...

This was actually my favourite thing we did in Kyoto, this is one of the best museums I have ever been to!

We were given a museum guide in English and much of the information on the walls was also printed in English. There was lots of art dedicated to world peace upstairs and downstairs there is comprehensive timeline of world history along with videos and interactive media. Best 400 yen...

It's a beautiful museum. It's not a museum with a lot of exhibits or an amazing collection of history, but it asks the visitor a clear and uncompromising question about the intention and purpose of the museum. "What does peace mean to you?" To answer this question, the museum chronicles the wars that Japan was involved in, and from my perspective as someone who knows the history of the Japanese invasion of Korea in detail, the explanation is not lacking at all. I've been to Kyoto many times and this is the first time I've visited this place!!! It would have been better if there was a Korean audio guide, but it's easy enough to understand the exhibits if you take your time with the Korean brochure. Highly recommended for travelers interested in...
