説明版： 京都ハリスト正教会 生神女（しょうしんじょ）福音聖堂 京都ハリスト正教会生神女福音聖堂は、ギリシャ正教の京都聖堂として、当時の京都府技師松室重光の設計・監督のもとに建てられた。建物は明治34年（1901）12月に完成していたが、ロシア正教会から寄付された聖障（イコノスタス）、教鐘、大燈明などの到着が明治36年3月であったため、聖堂成聖式は同年5月10日に行われた。 建物は、木造平屋建のロシア・ビザンンチン様式教会で、正面より、玄関、啓蒙所、聖所、至政所が1列に並び、最も広い聖所を中心とする十字型の平面構成となっている。聖所と至政所を仕切っている聖障は、柱と梁で区画されて油彩聖人像のパネル30枚が嵌められており、見ごたえがある。 この聖堂は、日本ハリスト正教会の聖堂のなかで、本格的なものとしては現存最古の遺構であり、以後に建築された木造聖堂の範例とされていたと考えられる。また、松室重光の日本における数少ない現存作品の一つとして貴重であり、意匠的にも、装飾が少なく簡素であるがその均斉の取れた外観は美しく、昭和61年6月2日、京都市指定有形文化財に指定された。 京都市 2021年11月に重要文化財に指定されました。
