革堂行願寺は一千年の歴史をもつお寺です。創建当時は一条通りにありました。戦乱や火災でいくたびも焼け、場所を替えつつも、人々の熱烈な信仰によってつねに都の中心部に再建されました。現在も西国観音霊場の第十九番札所として全国に知られる名刹です。 宗派: 天台宗 開基:行円上人 創建:寛弘元年(西暦1004年) 御本尊:千手観世音菩薩 駒札です。 駒札: 革堂(行願寺) 霊麀山行願寺(れいゆうさんぎょうがんじ)と号する天台宗の寺院で、西国三十三所観音霊場の第十九番札所である。 寛弘元年(1004)に行円(ぎょうえん)上人によって、一条小川(上京区)に創建された。子を孕んだ母鹿を射止めてしまったことを悔いた上人が、常にその皮をまとって鹿を憐み、人々から皮聖(かわひじり)と呼ばれていたことから、この寺も革堂と呼ばれるようになったといわれている。 以後、人々からの厚いい信仰を受け、町堂として大いに栄えたが、度々の災火により寺地を転々とし、宝永五年(1708)の大火の後、この地に移された。 現在の本堂は、文化十二年(1818)に建てられたもので、堂内には行円上人の作と伝えられる本尊千手観音像を安置している。 境内には、都(みやこ)七福神巡りの一つになっている寿老人神堂を始め、愛染堂(あいぜんどう)、鎮宅霊符神堂(ちんたくれいふしんどう)、加茂明神塔(かもみょうしんとう)などがある。また、宝物館には、若い女性の幽霊が描かれている幽霊絵馬が展示されている。 京都市 Gyoganji Temple is a temple with a history of 1,000 years. It was built in Ichijo Ogawa (Kamigyo Ward) by Gyouen's superior in the first year of Kanko (1004). This temple is also known as Kawahijiri, because the superior who regretted having shot the mother deer who had a child always wore the skin and had mercy on the deer. It is said that it came to be called a leather hall. After that, it prospered greatly as a town hall due to the deep faith of the people, but it was moved to this place after the great fire of Hoei 5 (1708) after the temple grounds were changed due to frequent disasters. The current main hall was built in 1818, and the statue of Senju Kannon, which is said to have been made by Gyouen Shonin, is enshrined in the hall. Gyoganji Temple Also known as Reiyusan Gyoganji, this temple belong to the Tendai sect of Japanese Buddhism was built in the Ichijo Ogawa area of Kamigyo Ward in 1004 by the monk Gyoen. The temple's popular name (literally "leather hall") is said to derive from the fact that Gyoen was known as Kawa-no-hijin due to his habit of wearing the skin of a pregnant deer he had inadvertently killed, an event that greatly him and inspried in him an attitude of kindness taward deer. the temole grew to inspire deep faith on the part of bellevers and prospered as a community center although its location was moved frequently due to a series of destructive fires. It came to the present site following a great fire in 1708. The currient main hall was built in 1815 and enshrines the SenjuKannon statue, said to be the work of Gyoen himself as the temple's principal image. Chanced upon this rare Buddhist temple on our way to the city centre. Nice architecture adorning the gate as well as interior of this building. There were a few people praying when we went in. Also saw lots of pots that was supposedly filled with blooming lilies. Unfortunately when we visited,none...
