I have been wanting to try the chicken rice after stumbling upon this restaurant while randomly looking for rotisserie chicken in Kyoto. My version of chicken rice that I am familiar with is from Singapore - fragrant rice made with chicken broth, spring onion and ginger paired with poached or roasted chicken. Here, the rice is stuffed into a deboned chicken thigh and sealed into a very nice package. Looks like a tiny chicken without the wings and legs. Judging at how nicely browned the entire chicken package was and also how crispy the skin was, the chicken must have been confit but it was not oily at all. You can choose from a range of sauces to go with the chicken and I choose onion and truffle sauce. When it was first served, you couldn't tell how hot the chicken was until you cut it open and smoke started coming out. While the chicken remained piping hot throughout (from the rice compacted inside), the sauce was chilled, making it very refreshing and easy to eat. Especially in the heat of summer. The rest of the dishes were spectacular as well. I choose the soup ( it was cold pumpkin soup that day) over miso soup. Even though the staff don't speak English, they still serve you with a smile. And they were very attentive to refill your water and proceed on to the next course without any prompting. It was a very good experience for me. I didn't give 5 stars for ambience not because it was lacking. But just to give an indication that this is not a fine dining restaurant. It is tiny and cozy and comfortable for dining alone or with friends and family.

Family friendly cozy awesome restaurant! They have toys and Japanese children’s books, Japanese style Zashiki table(great for letting your child play while you’re eating) and delicious plates. We ordered ¥2,100/ea dinner course and came with 1st appetizer plate(2 choices, we prefer liver pâté), 2nd appetizer robster croquette, today’s soup, main course(u can choose, any protein w rice/bread)and ice cream w tea/coffee. For the main course we chose “hamburg steak” and “chicken rice”. The chicken rice is their signature, crispy chicken outside and risotto like tasty sticky rice inside. It was super delicious! You probably would better choose your sauce NOT sweet one cz the rice is a lil sweet. The Hamburg steak, which all the Japanese loves, was juicy and tender, different from what people cook at home but so professional! Yum! FYI, our boy ordered chicken nuggets n flies. They have children’s menu as well. We definitely recommend this place to all the people who want to enjoy lunch/dinner while taking care of your small ones. Will visit again!

We just had dinner here, and we felt compelled to express how amazing it was. The restaurant is cozy; the staff are very kind (and accommodating to tourists who don't speak Japanese); and the food was delicious. We had the chicken rice, which was juicy and crisp, and the teriyaki chicken, which might have been the best sauce I had in Japan. I opted for the full dinner set, which came with generous appetisers, soup, miniature homemade bread, and coffee and ice cream for dessert. We felt like the meal should have been much more expensive. It punches above its weight class. If we return to Kyoto, we will certainly return here.
