Robert Yellin Yakimono Gallery — Attraction in Kyoto

Such a beautiful gallery near one of Kyoto's most famous temples. Robert is a wonderful guide through his beautiful pottery pieces on display as he details the styles, making and the artists themselves, many of whom he has personally met and considers living legends.

Amazing variety of styles from across Japan and as I was there an artist delivered a beautiful paintng of a Geisha Maiko for the display.

The gallery has a gorgeous little private Japanese garden beyond the small tatami area where Robert also puts some interesting pieces.

If you are looking for beautiful pottery to enjoy in your home or business, this is a great place to come. The prices are not cheap (your can find cheap pottery in many shops aross Kyoto and Japan), but the added value of the stories and background information and philosphy behind each piece that Robert will introduce to you makes these art pieces worth having and dispaying, so unlike just a piece of pottery or ceramic.

Robert Yellin is on premises. He’s from California, and being a Californian myself, I felt right at home. He is very warm and welcoming. He encouraged us to handle the pieces, and we did with the utmost care. There was another family from CA there and we witnessed their purchase of three items. Robert was kind enough to invite me into his gallery after an email exchange. He is located along the philosopher's path. There were many fine ceramics on display and Robert offered many details about them and their artists. A unique treat was the traditional courtyard garden in the soft rain.
