Hachi Shrine is a place where tuterary deities of Ginkakuji Temple ( belongs to Jodo sect of Buddhism ) are enshrined in 8 different spots in the precincts. In Japanese " Hachi " stands for 8. It is said to be the very last one of Hachi Shrines which exists in many different places nationwide and the origin of this shrine is unknown. According to some sourse it was found in between 806 and 810, or 901 and 923. Since the shrine offers protection around this area, it is recommended that you make your short viosit before you go on hiking to Mt. Daimonji in the east. The location of the shrine gate is just straight north of the front gate of Ginkakuji Temple. Mt, Daimonji entrance point just starts in the east of the shrine.
